That is a matter of preference. Its about what works for YOU specifically.
I suggest you try multiple mantras and adapt it for yourself.
Can i ask what works for mrdeano?
I don't use them.
Although when I did use them at the start of my Lucid Dreaming journey, I said to myself 'Deano, you WILL have a lucid dream tonight'. I was really assertive with myself :P:P
Worth a try :)
Mantras sometimes keep me awake, so I just use something really short.
Interestingly enough, repeating a mantra before sleep has never caused me to be lucid, however, it has worked for dream recall (I was having a bout of horrible recall, so as a mantra I said, "I will recall my dreams when I wake up.") and for having dreams in general (after I got over my recall draught, I had a dream draught - falling asleep thinking of too many things / not sleeping long enough. So, my mantra was simply, "I will dream tonight.").
I find the best mantra is one that's accepting of it happening or not happening. In my experience trying too hard can be detrimental to attaining lucidity. Let it come naturally.

Patience is key. :) I haven't had a lucid in quite a while, but I'm okay with that. It'll come, in due time.
As for the original question, the mantra I used to have my first few lucids was "I AM dreaming," with a lot of determination. I like that this one is short, sweet, and to the point. I also like that it is in present-tense. :D I would be really careful of using any mantra that contains the word "lucid" in it, especially if you're new to this. The reason? The brain packs a whole hell of a lot more meaning and information behind words like dreaming, sleeping, and awareness. You give the unconscious mind the word "lucid," and it isn't quite positive what to do with it. :P
Thanks for everyone :)
