Advice after SP?

Wazzup everyone. :D

I had attempted multiple WILDs a long while ago and had successfully reached sleep paralysis almost all of my attempts. However, that was the extent of my WILD experience. I tried various approaches yet couldn't reach the phase of the WILD where you experience the HH.

I used the counting method to reach SP, and sure enough, at around my 300th breath SP kicked in just liked it said in one of the tutorials I read. But once this occurred I didn't really know what to do. Then before long the SP was gone and I went back to sleep normally.


First of all, how am I supposed to control my breathing? Do I keep trying to breathe at a steady rate? Or was this the reason my SP goes away before getting anywhere? Am I supposed to not breathe consciously and hope that my body will take over the breathing process? Or will that suffocate me? o_o

Also, is there any other advice I should be following? Like what should I expect, be thinking about, be trying to visualize, etc?

May I ask what WILD is? I've experienced sleep paralysis but it has never been controlled. (And by HH do you mean the hag often experienced with SP?)

Don't worry though - I'm sure your regulatory body functions will keep you breathing through sleep. :)

From what i have heard... After SP kicks in, Try to imagine yourself somewhere, and if you think hard enough, soon you will have a WILD dream there. BEWARE of the Hallucinations and the side effects. These are what makes WILD so damn freaky. If you wake yourself up too early, You will freak out because you can't move. Stay calm, alter your breathing cycle, and move around your small muscles.

@Rabby: A WILD means Wake Initiated Lucid Dream. Its a method to induce lucid dreaming. Usually to perform a WILD you wake up around 5hrs after you fell asleep. Depending on your preferences, you stay awake for either a few minutes to an hour. Then you go to sleep again, but you have to make sure that your body falls asleep and not your mind. In most circumstances when attempting this, you will experience sleep paralysis followed by hallucinations. Then once your asleep, you will be in a dream and lucid too.

Oh and by HH i mean Hypo-(something) Hallucinations.

HH = Hypnogogic Hallucinations... Or was it Hypnagogic? I don't know; you get the idea.

As for your question... When you say that you reached SP but not HH, you mean that you can't move but that you don't get any hallucinations?

There are a couple approaches. If you're just paralyzed but otherwise it just feels like you're in your bed, you can try rolling over and you should end up in a dream. I've only done this a couple of times; it's hard to describe, since you want to move your dream body but not your real body. At the same time, your dream body is controlled the same way that your physical body is. In any case, once you roll over you can get up and be on your way. Be careful about opening your eyes, since they aren't affected by atonia.

Then there's the method Masterbg11 mentioned, where you visualize yourself in a scene and then eventually it forms around you.

There is the "seesaw" approach - I think this is of benefit to people (like me) who don't get much HI. Once you're in SP you imagine yourself on a seesaw or moving up and down. I think this technique originated from someone called Xantric.

I guess I've been a little unclear on what my problem is. Whenever I attempt a WILD I can reach sleep paralysis, but the SP goes away in a few minutes. The SP goes away before I get to any hallucinations. I'm pretty sure that the SP going away has something to do with the the way I'm breathing, since that's the only way my body could've known that I wasn't actually asleep yet. So first and foremost, I'd like advice on what to do with my breathing.

These approaches are interesting though and I'll keep those in mind. Oh and its not that I don't get HH its just that I haven't experienced it yet. But I'll keep that "seesaw" approach in mind just in case.

Lol, don't worry about suffocating. Remember that you get paralyzed every time you go into REM, and you've managed to survive thus far without consciously controlling your breathing. ;)

I've had some trouble with breathing as well and I'm hardly an expert on WILD, but from personal experience I'd say you'd be best off just forgetting about it. Don't think about not thinking about your breathing, just don't think about it at all. Instead you could try focusing on one of the techniques for getting into a dream.

At least you can get to sp, I am more newb then you! Can anyone give me detaile tips, like what to do with your tongue, and on your back, do you tilt your head, I tense my tongue to the top of my mouth, does that prevent sp?

The best advice I read (on DV) was: initially, just do what you do when you normally go to sleep. Then, as you start getting closer to sleep you can start doing things like affirmations, counting, visualisations etc. (Jeff777, I believe.)
