Give me a cookie and I may answer.
I think DV is not taking itself seriously enough because we ought to realize that DV is better than cookies, we are the best thing possibly since apple pie, psychologists should routinely prescribe this site for all kinds of ailments including boredom.
I do like apple pie. and I'm sure I have apples and pie crust...
I would have added Apple Pie to the poll, but it appears I cannot edit it now.
Mmmmm..... Apple pie and ice cream. Luckily I have both
Awww I have none of these sweets...and I think I'm getting hypoglycemia.
But i think DV has found good place in between taking itself seriously and not serious enough.
Poll removed, OP, repliers, voters, and viewers all banned.
Somebody better bake me a cake or I'll smash it right in their face..
Take THAT seriously
I'd take DV over a cookie any day.
Takes itself WAY too seriously but like who is going to refuse a cookie?
Gannon-banned?
I think you're thinking of OpheliaBlue, she's way serious about her job.
Can't you tell?

The staff list hasn't changed. It was merely the incorrect term. Admin instead of moderator.
Staff is a team and no one person is superior to any other. The contributions and volunteer-time of staffmembers speak for themselves. :)
I don't know about the specific mods on this forum, but it's a fact that power tends to go to people's heads, at least a bit, in general. Maybe it doesn't happen here, I have no idea. But you're definitely awesome and not like that.
But even if the power isn't going to someone's head at all (it is just an online forum :cheeky:), my reaction is the same. It's hard to feel that someone is equal and act naturally around a person if you know they have any authority over you, like the power to ban you and give you infractions and lock your threads. Maybe it's only me who feels that way, but I think it's more likely just an unavoidable part of human psychology.
Yea... just you.
Also... the fuck. this should be in senseless banter.... and then locked for being to senseless.
You're a chat mod. All the people who say it's bs seem to coincidentally be mods.
I used to feel uncomfortable around moderators when I came here because at the online forum where I came from before, threads would get closed because there was a chance of them turning ugly if they continued on current course and everyone had the worst intensions and no self restraint, and one got censored to the point where people would start self censoring with phrases like "I respectfully disagree with your opinion ...". I was made to doubt whether I am a good enough parent by the number of times the mods there reminded me that this was a general audience site and what I posted had not been appropriate, even though I had shown it to my very young kids. Etc etc
I have learned a lot while on DV, and one of the things I have been learning is to trust mods. The DV mods are ok.
Whether it's about getting people to know to practice self-restraint or encouraging they can be a bit more serious at times, it will all come down to people wanting the sporadic nature again. Especially when people notice others that get banned, only for them to actually miss that person that was banned because while they know they did some horrible things, they still find ways to justify wanting them back (because they never really bothered them).
Especially when we know about the previous occurrences in DV where we had to gather and inform members, even the ones we didn't like, to make sure their accounts and other valuable information (with the passwords and all) wouldn't be compromised. So while it feels like some sporadic battlefield, if the sporadic nature with general audience were eliminated (like with the previous event where everyone's account had the chance to be compromised), it was obvious from the start that people need other people to feed information and argue about, or just go about being gregarious in many ways.
Other than sections on DV that actually have conflict, it's made apparent that areas like Extended Discussion and such obviously have the disclaimer to expect one's views and concepts of things to be challenged (but people will obviously censor themselves with ending things as agreeing to disagree and other cop-outs). And I know there has to be some breaking point for mods take some action, but honestly, when people think those sections are like battlefields rather than for once seeing your worldview of things being broken, they would take the chance to just swallow their pride and realize they could be wrong in some things.
As for mods, it's funny how there's some people that feel they're "Nazis", especially whatever choice or judgement they decide to enforce, people will still find some way to whine and complain.

Oh, this forum is lovely.
I'm a mod.
I see no problem with this discussion.
Carry on.
