If you had the choice to die any way you wanted, by which means would you choose to go?
I guess a lot of people would like to die in a peaceful way, but personally I would like to die doing something really cool or exiting- like being killed by a great white shark, or perhaps Skydiving :mrgreen:
(And my apologies if anyone is offended/upset by this thread, I understand that dark humour is not to everyone’s taste)

Ahem, seriously now, I'd like something quick, painless and most importantly... heroic.
That's right, I wanna die while saving the world from aliens like the guy in Independence Day or something. Or maybe just while saving one person's life.

Actually, I've heard death from a skydiving accident is painful... not that anyone would know, but apparantly when you first hit the ground all the bones in your body break into little fragments, then you bounce, then when you hit the ground again all those little shards of bone get driven into your organs. That's why skydiver's say if you get caught without a parachute, land somewhere with long grass and hold onto it!
I'm not sure if this is true but hey, it sounds pretty gruesome.
I'd like to die... from my brain spontaneously combusting. That's the quickest death you can get.

As to the skydiving comment, the max speed ever recorded of a skydiver is 143m/s without any special equipment, and 49 m/s is considered a safe speed of opening your parachute at, so if you knew your parachute wasn't going to open(or you were planning on dying). And you went into a dive towards the ground at 100m/s and have about 75 kilograms of mass
Thats about 3680000 joules of energy, and assuming that the human body is 10% elastic(which is highly unlikely) your still exerting 3312000 joules in 2/100ths of a second, definantly going to be enough to break your neck, pulverize your skull, compress your spine, and smash your brain.
Now, if you go legs first and/or are laying in the air perpendicular to the ground, there is a chance you are going to feel some pain(heck some people have even survived)

Well... I should not answer this, but the Euphoric Way to kill yourself is would be to get a great big 'cable tie' or 'tie wrap' -- a plastic strip that locks end to end, which you can tighten and it will lock in place. You do what the Thugs used to do with their stangulation cords, and place rolled up pieces of cloth under the Tie Wrap Cable Ties so that they will press upon ones arteries leading to the brain. Pull and tighten. If one thinks you might interfer with the process, then arrange another Tie Wrap Cable Tie behind your back for your hands, so that you can no interfer with your death by strangulation. You will have a Death by Light Headedness. There is no better way to go. It is Absolutely Blissful.
If you think you might make a mistake, then slip a plastic bag over the arrangment, and then if the closure of blood to the Brain does not kill you, then suffocation will. But if you do it write, the closure of blood to the brain will knock you out in less than a minute and you will not have to worry about all the flopping around you will have to do from Suffocation. But even with Suffocation, one is already Unconscious by the time all the flopping around engages, so I would guess that is Blissful also.

MDMA overdose is my preferred death. Brain dumps all it's serotonin, you die, brain drops all it's dopamine.
In another thread, I mentioned a dream I had about being swallowed alive, and finding it strangely enjoyable. Therefore my chosen death is being swallowed alive, the only problem is what could swallow me alive? The only things that are big enough like snakes, crocodiles, sharks etc, would probably kill me before swallowing.

I wanna die in a way that makes people say, "goddamn that was the most awesome death i have ever seen." Like when something explodes and your body flies halfway across the level, then you hit a plane and flip wildly into the air and land on a tank...
Sadly that only happens in video games. But im open to suggestions if anybody can think of how to apply this to real life.

I would like to implode on national television. If that's not possible, I'd just swallow an entire bottle of pain killers. I'd like something painless because I'm a wuss.

actually, a tylenol overdose is one of the worst deaths out there. It's really pretty nasty. Opiate overdose is probably not much better, but then again I don't know much about that.
That reminds me of the film "Hot shots". A guy in that film crashed his fighter plane straight into the ground, then got up perfectly unharmed. He then got run over by the ambulance that came to help him. He still survived but died because of an incompetent doctor who used all the morpheen on himself. :lol:Quote:

I've heard drowning is the best way to die. After a short period of fear you accept the fact that you will die and then you'll start hallucinating or something.

Parachute failure after jumping from 30,000 ft in the midst of a supercell explosion over golden plains or savannah at sunset... or maybe over the mountains. Either way would result in an awesome ride, an amazing view, and a quick end. The problem would of course be convincing a pilot to take me up in that sort of environment - so before I die, I'll just have to get my skydiving license and my pilot's license. No problem, though, since I plan to do that anyway.

^^^^I just had a look on wikepedia, and it does look a bit painful. It said that nails were sometimes put through the waist, or in between the two bones that make up our forearm :shock:

Slow oxygen deprivation will cause you to drift off to sleep and die probably in a fairly pleasant manner - like sitting in a closed garage with your car running. Drowning, however, would not be quite so pleasant. Holding your breath is painful, as I'm sure you know if you've ever dived down deeper than you intended without taking a large enough breath before submerging. Your lungs will burn and scream and eventually you'll open your mouth and take a breath. It's an autonomic bodily function. You can control it when you think about it (which is why you're able to hold your breath in the first place), but when you stop conscious thought, you body takes over and restores your breath to its natural rhythm. If it didn't, you'd suffocate in your sleep. So while you're under the water, hoping for a pleasant end, your lungs will begin to ache and you'll fight the urge to breathe - nothing out there but water, after all - and hold your breath. But as the seconds pass, the ache becomes a burn, excruciating like a fire within your chest, flaming as your body screams to breathe! breathe! breathe! You'll fight it - maybe for a minute, maybe two - but eventually your autonomic system will override your mind and its irrational, deadly desires, and your mouth will open and water will rush into the vacuum of your lungs and that burn that you thought couldn't possibly get worse, will. Well, I would be in a faraway land, where no one knew where I was (no tears), and I would probably go down begging for mercy, b/c of the fact I want to live forever....

Well, I would guess that most people would wish to have a painless death. Well along this same continuum I suppose people would find a positively pleasureable death even better.
I fast a lot, that is, I often go for long periods without eating. What happens then is my blood pressure drops and I tend to faint. Nothing feels better than fainting. One loses Body Consciousness into an insensible Field of Bliss... or rather, it feels more like a Wave of Bliss.
The actual mechanism here is that not enough blood is getting to the brain. Typically one faints after getting up from lying down, and the blood falls from the brain and pressure is insufficient to flow new blood back up.
Anyway, if one wanted to kill oneself while putting this same mechanism to work, then one could strangulate one's self, paying attention to the Arteries in one's neck. Those Cable Ties or Tie Wraps that the Police now use instead of handcuffs (plastic strips that join end to end to form a loop, and as they are tightened they grip and cannot be loosened again. To remove them they must be cut.) A large Cable Tie tightened around the neck, with cloths strategically placed inside the loop to press particularly against the arteries --- well, that would be certainly deadly. If one worried about struggling, then one could place another Cable Tie fastened securely at the end, so that one could place one's hands behind ones back, insert them into the loop and pull, thus securing one's hands behind one's back shortly after having tightened the loop around one's neck.
To make double sure, one could place a hefty plastic bag up and around the loop that fastens around the neck, so that if there does happen to be enough blood to keep the brain alive, then the supply of oxygen will be cut off by the bag.
But even with all of these details, I don't anticipate that anybody would remain conscious for more than 30 or 40 seconds, and that one would pass out pleasureably.
Just last week I met with a poor cat that had been struck several times on the road by not killed. I stopped and evaluated the poor thing and saw no hope for it, and so I held in on the little arteries on its neck. Its breathing rate increased and then after about a minute, it convulsed for a few moments, and then it was still.

I had a friend kill kerself this way. She anchored rope somehow and put it around her neck, then leaned forward so it cut off her blood and oxygen supply. We thought she hung herself initially but she was found strangled in a closet (by her poor little sister). I would've thought after feeling yourself losing consciousness, you're body would automatically let the pressure off your neck by backing up or something - but I guess not. :(Quote:

yes, there's something wrong with that. IT'S ALL AROUND YOU! Our great nation's economy was built on cotton! What do you sleep on, a bed of nails? do you have hemp shirts and courdoroy pants? and what about socks, do you have to buy the special super-expensive kind? I just don't understand how anything that could have happened in 7th could cause you to like pain more than cotton.
It has actually been longer than 7th. B4 I learned to LD, I learned to like and hate certain textures, and pain had no effect on me (I would bump into walls all the time, but I would turn around and act like nothing happened), though I would scream at people if they dared put cotton anywhere on me (I was young, but I still dread it). I'd still like to die a martyr. What better way to go than dying for something you truly believe in and are willing to perish to tell the world... though I'd prefer them drowning me because water is my favorite element. At least it would be a fairly quick death.
Least favorite way to die: fire... or lava. I hate the thought of being burnt to death....
Another unpleasant way to die, I've heard is huffing cooking spray. I heard about a kid who did it once. The spray expands once it hits the oxygen so you're instantly asphyxiated (sp?). I imagine it'd be painful too.

Half of the Kitties face was missing -- its right eye was totally gone. Depends on if you believe in afterlife or not. Jail is more 'reviewing' the bad things you did in life, and it can be incrediblely upsetting.

I WOULD do such a thing to a child in the same condition, IF it wasn't for legal and emotional issues. I most certainly would hope somebody would do the same for me if I was in such a situation.

For me, I would like to have just finished my chores on a warm summer day. Sit under the shade of a tree with a tall glass of ice water. Nes, hating yourself isn't good, either. Might I suggest at least looking into a few Buddhist ideals? I'm not saying join them by any means, since you probably wouldn't be comfortable with that. But at least look at their beliefs, maybe attend a few gatherings. The whole ideal is to become at peace with yourself and with the world, and it's a very admirable goal. I've been working on it with a friend for a while now, and it's amazing how good it feels to relax and know that if you have to go now, that's okay. Fearing that you'll go to prison if you die is irrational and unhealthy--Fear of death, once it passes a certain point, is also a negative pressure.
Personally, I feel absolutely no fear or uncertainty related to death. I'm an atheist, but I've reached peace with my end, though it likely won't be coming any time soon. I know that when I die, even if it was at this moment, I'd have died being the person I wanted to be. You ought to be able to feel the same way, as should everybody in this world.

Ask Draco, he knows me personally and can attest that I have all thumbs AND two left feet, and I have a hard time figuring which part of me is a thumb and which is a left foot half the time. Then, after dancing a while, I promptly tripped over a stool and bashed my arm into the mural I was working on, leaving a nice sized dent in the middle of it all. I laughed again, and painted over it. I didn't feel any compulsion to punish myself, I didn't hate myself for it, I just painted over it and moved on. If anything, being clumsy just makes my life more amusing to me...
But something tells me there's more to your self-loathing than just being clumsy. May I ask what? If you don't feel comfortable talking about it out in the open, I still would welcome any PMs. I'd even give you my phone number if you wanted--you live in Utah too, so it shouldn't be long distance, then you can explain everything, or just talk about LDing, or whatever. I'm just saying that you need to accept that whatever faults you may think you have could be to blame on something outside your control. Before you just blow me off, at least give me a chance to hear you out and think it over with all the pieces in play.
Back onto the cat topic, putting an animal down involves chemicals that do more or less the same thing--halt oxygen flow to the brain, though the means of doing so may vary. But in the meantime, carrying said cat to a vet would take a considerable amount of time--time incredibly excruciating for the cat, only for it to recieve more or less the same means of death, if less crude in execution. Also, with a cat in such bad condition, finding a vein in tact enough for such an injection could be difficult.
And the death by halt of oxygen would be quite painless, as Leo said, pleasurable, even. The only thing swifter or more humane would be cervical dislocation (breaking it's neck near the base of the skull to immediately kill it), though with an animal as mangled and as large as the kitten, that would be difficult and likely to go wrong, making asphyxiation of some form or another more viable.
And Seeker, I completely agree. Not so much about sitting at the tree and such, but being at peace--it's a wonderful feeling, knowing that you're proud of what you've done, and that you can truly accept a peaceful end.
EDIT: Microwaves would be an incredibly painful way to die. INCREDIBLY. One, it isn't nearly as short as you might think. I've played around with broken microwaves before--making it so the microwave can run with the door open. I didn't want to zap my whole body, so I closed the door with just my index finger in the seam, then turned the microwave on. it was like lighting the bone on fire--not the skin, the bone. It started to burn instantly, too, not just a slow acclimation of heat--and it was AMAZINGLY painful. I pulled my finger out before I could feel anything else. Sticking your whole body in a microwave would be like dipping your skeletal system all in molten steel, then reinserting it into your body while it was still burning---generally unpleasant.

Well, that is okay. I have bad self-esteem, and for now, even my psychiratrist can't do anything about it, b/c it is my choice.
I am thanatophobic, but I have many reasons for that (my religion did not pit these fears into me....)
