what happened to conversation? what happened to average people discussing important things? what's up with all this "I'm going to avoid this subject and that subject, to avoid offending someone." seriously, what's going on? people need to stop getting offended at everything. instead of getting offended at something someone says, find out why they said it, and calmly discuss it with them! if we stop getting all angry over stupid little things, we can come to conclusions, progress, get along! we're holding ourselves back by letting all this happen! you might be thinking, yeah, it's true, people need to stop getting offended all the time, but what can you do? I'LL TELL YOU WHAT YOU CAN DO, YOU CAN GIVE A FLYING FUCK! stop sitting around and letting it happen, AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! maybe you don't get all upset over things, well, that's great! but it's NOTHING if you don't pass that attitude on to others. what good would it to be to be the only person alive willing to talk to others, if everyone else is all closed up and won't talk? jack fucking shit, that's what it's good for.

you know what you can do? TALK. take your ideas that are backed with sound reasoning, and SHARE THEM. who knows, you might learn something, you might see something in a new way after someone else shares their thoughts in reply to yours, and you'll have a better understanding, and be a better person for it. DO THIS. read, study what you're interested in, ask questions, GET INVOLVED. stop wasting all of your time watching reality tv shows, those things aren't reality unless you MAKE IT YOUR REALITY. you can spend time improving your own life instead of watching the (FAKE) daily lives of a group of people with shitty ones. don't have a lot of interests? get out and find more. you can't possibly know every subject, there's a ton of cool shit in the world that you can find if you just get off your ass and look. if you have a shitty life, it's your own goddamn fault. if you think no one loves you and you feel all alone, it's your own goddamn fault. your life is what you make it, and you are what you make yourself.

get the fuck out and there and DISCUSS THINGS. if more people would do this, the world would be a much better place! but no, everyone is appearently happy in their little comfort zones, "I'm sitting here with my mouth shut so there's no chance I could say something someone might not like, and so every one will be happy and like me tra la la." THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF ATTITUDE THAT IS RESPONSABLE FOR MOTHER FUCKING WARS.

people, DVers, share your thoughts! what do you think about abortion? gay marriage (or homosexuality in general)? capital punishment? the war in Iraq? I want everyone to start sharing their thoughts, here on DV and elsewhere, on EVERY SENSATIVE ISSUE. the more we talk about it and use reason, the easier it will be to come to agreements! and more people in agreement means more power, more support one way or the other, and it can change the world! every person who reads this, I want you to make a thread in either Religion/Spirituality, Philosophy, or Extended Discussion and share your thoughts on something deep, something important to you. any one of your strongest, most controversial stances. you will likely be met with some careless, hateful replies. HOWEVER! you will also be met with replies from calm, intelligent, respectful, insightful people. and you may learn from them, and they may learn from you. how can you learn anything if you lock up a belief in your mind, never sharing it and only occasionally adding to it whatever bits of related information that happen to float your way? YOU WON'T GET ANYWHERE WITH THAT, YOU MIGHT AS WELL HAVE NO OPINIONS AT ALL, if you're just going to lazily hold them and never work on them.

This sums up my views on a lot of things. If there is something that I do have an opinion on but don't talk about, it is never because I'm worried about how people will take it. I like saying controversial things. Most of the time it is because I've already tried discussing it in the past and have lost the desire to. It would no longer be enjoyable to do so. For the remaining few, I do discuss them. I'm a selfish bastard and I do what I enjoy. If I don't think I'll enjoy getting into a discussion, I'm going to just look to the next one.

As far as starting a thread in one of those 3 sections, I don't really have an issue on hand that would fit in there. I'm not afraid to say what's on my mind. I just don't have anything on my mind at the moment (except my pizza in the microwave and the paused episode of Inuyasha in a minimized window).

I do agree, though. People get offended way too easily. Sometimes I want to say something, whether true or not, just to offend them because I'm annoyed that they take offense to things too easily. I rarely do, though, because I try not to be mean without reason. I like Eminem's lyrics: "You find me offensive. I find you offensive for finding me offensive."

As far as beliefs, I know what I believe to be true and I've gotten into enough religious discussions to where it seems pointless to discuss with people who aren't here to experience it. All the discussions always end up with "well, we're not going to convince eachother, so I guess it's kinda pointless to keep going on". I've finally taken that advice.

I am pretty useless. I agree. It doesn't really bother me, though. I don't have an urge to be very useful. The more useful you are, the more you are asked to do things. I've fine-tuned the information I let escape from my lips and I only let people know I'm useful in things that I would enjoy doing if they asked me. It has a nice bonus because it creates the illusion that I'm really selfless because I rarely refuse to do things people ask me to do and I'm usually happy to do things they do ask me to do without payment.

I suppose you are right. However, more so than giving up, most of the time I would call it quits was because the effort put forth had surpassed my desire to convince.

I don't know what to say. you lack passion, and I don't know how to inspire passion in people that don't have any. ok, that sucks, because that's what I'm trying to do. I've just always been a very passionate person.

I don't know what to do, besides stay passionate (which will stay anyway no matter what I do) and communicate as much as possible. I'm sure that doing that will influence some people, that aren't too stubbornly lazy. I know it will.
