I stop by on the weekends sometimes. I'd be in, but you'd have to give me some time, I just ordered a mic and it won't be here for at least a week. THough I could always go DI.

I'm not too good, but depending on the criteria I might think of getting in on this.
Hmmmm, I might go for it. Even though I'm really not that good on the guitar.
But I think someone should make a new thread for it, this is too messy here. someone post a new thread with rules etc. And it should be made like a proper tournament, like have one round, then knock some people out, do another round, knock more out. (basically like american idol, or X factor) that's just what I think it should be like, I dunno 'bout you guys.
But I still need to get a 1/4'' to 3.5mm jack, so I can record in my computer.
In fact, I'll order that now.
EDIT: ordered :D
While I took an extended absence from DV you guys HAD to make an awesome thread!
Anyways! I'll post some of my guitar wankery when I get home tomorrow perhaps
I don't have the best recording gear, but I'd be interested if we get this going again
How will this thing work? I can't be bothered reading all of the thread's posts.
if you could help me out with gettig recording gear and software I'd gladly do it
n-track studio is free.
Just google it. I have it, but I haven't tried it yet. But it looks easy enough to use, and it looks like it has a good amount of features.
Or you could try audacity, also free.
In the past these competitions would have some basic rules or guidlines, everyone submits a peice and then someone would make a thread with a vote where we post these and people vote on which one they like.
Anyone have any suggestions for what kind of song? I'm in the mood for some spacey rock music or maybe just something simple with a play along track.
I still need to buy a mic but I'm gonna do that right now. Anyone ever use a Zoom H2?
Well, usually what we do is set up the requirements for each event, which usually gives us about a week to get our entries put together. Then, at the end of the week, everyone submits their video/audio presentation of whatever it was they did, and then I make a vote thread where other DV members come and vote on who has the best entry.
Audacity works just fine, as stonedape suggested (actually I didn't even noticed he had already answered slash's question until now). That's what I use.
Do you really need a mic? If you've got cables and an adapter, you can just plug your guitar right into the computer. I think the adapter to go from a large to small jack is just a couple of bucks. The quality is much better than using a mic, too, since it's a direct feed.
So far, I don't have any ideas, but if we can come up with one we all agree on, we can start working on it this week, and have voting up and running by the weekend.
Any ideas?
Well, like a day after i suggested n-track. I was able to use it and it sucked so much. I got audicity and it rocks. It is so easy to use, and works well.
And thanks for the explanation. Sounds quite good, but I kinda kighly doubt I would be able to do some of the stuff that comes up. But I can give it a go if it seems slightly possible for me.
But, well someone needs to kick start this thing. Whoever has a good idea.
i guess i might participate for the non shredding parts cause my guitar jack on my electric is broken
so its all acoustic for me right now :P
Hey kids! Man, it's been a loooooong time. So, looks like we may be ramping up for a new showdown. I could be up for that. So, ideas;
I think I suggested this already back in the day, but not sure if it was picked up. How about a piece which requires alternate tuning of some sort (such as open tuning) or custom tuning of any kind?
Or, (and this one I recommend only because I was already thinking about doing this anyway :P ) ; remake an old 80's song. Why? well, I've been hearing a lot of it being done lately (Land of Confusion, Boys of Summer, etc) and to be honest I find they've been butchered. What's good about this era, however, is the variety of buckets the music from that time fell into (pop, rap, metal, dance, electronic, etc) which lends itslef to really pushing the original into another direction.
Could be anything you want- take a dance techno and make it accoustic/unplugged or take a pop-tune and thrash it out. Up to you.Quote:
The remake an 80's song one, do you mean make it sound more modern, or what?
Nice, post it.
And I'll really need to put my thinking cap on.
I still like this one. :> We still have enough time to get the event ready for next weekend. Who's all in?
Well, I would initially try to keep it with pieces prepared between the planning and presentation of each event, just to all contestants get the same amount of time to have practiced their piece, before they presented it.
That's just my opinion, though. So what's the official word? Who's all in, and should pre-written pieces be allowed?
i guess im in for the remaking thing
i only have acoustic so ill take a metal 80's song and acoustify it.
and i believe that the said entry should be created after the end of the last competition
i dont know when the last one was but this rule works great for weekly/monthly competitions
I guess I'm in, but I can't think of an 80s song I want to cover. Are you guys planning on singing or just instrumental?
I'll probably look into this. When I hear the word "80s", thrash metal pops into my head. And that's just ma' thang, baby.
Personally, I will just be playing. I think we can do "play and sing" events, but I'm not sure about singing being an option in every competition. I think that people will be more likely to grade the performance on the singing, or have it be the catalyst, than a true measure of guitar ability.
That's just my opinion, though. Any other thoughts on it?
I agree O, I just wanted to clarify things.
I MAY be up for this... as I did something similar in another forum where we got a jam track, recorded one of us jamming for the first 30 seconds and then the other for the next 30 seconds and so on... it didn't get finished but sounded cool.
Sorry, I'm too lazy to read through all the pages but has anything been done? Can I still participate?
