Dr. Thompson was a Gonzo Journalist, meaning he mixed fact and fiction in such a dizzying way that unless you are skilled in the field he was talking about you might not be able to separate the two. He described what seems to be a massive overdose of some kind of speed, he probably just named it adrenochrome and gave described an exotic way of procuring it for the sensationalistic effect.
Any recreational use of adrenal glands or Adrenochrome is wholly mythical.
The closest one would get to that would be Epinephrine(synthetic adrenaline) which is readily available in the medicine aisle of your local supermarket as Primatene Mist. As for getting shot up with the stuff, I've been to the hospital and had it administered intraveneously for an asthma attack. NOT fun. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were dying.
I've covered salvia so many times on this site I'm sick of writing about it.
Dramamine scares me, I don't think I'd like to take it. The possible side effects are too vast and too dangerous, plus I like being in control of myself, with Dramamine you believe your hallucinations are 100% real. No thank you.
