Does it have a stylus based digitizer in it with pressure and angle sensing like a true graphics tablet, or is it only the capacitive touch screen?

It's got pressure sensitivity and it has multi touch. You won't be able to draw on it like the Wacom Tablets though, no way near as sensitive. But there would be some things you could create on it. Using your fingers or something. Wouldn't buy it for that though.
IMO it's way too big. Maybe if you want a laptop just for e-mailing and going on websites, typing notes etc, this could be ok. Cheaper than a new laptop too. BUT it would be a bitch for writing long things and anything else you can think of. You either have to hold it up or tilt your head down. Arm/neck strain either way, you can't win. Basically.... it is a big iPhone. I completely agree. There's no point in having it this big, basically just for screen size.
It is futuristic, Apple is good like that. But I'm gonna stick to their desktop computers and phones. Most Apple products are good, but occasionally they just bring out a pile of shit. This is a good example, along with every computer mouse they have ever made.
Also I didn't even think about the name, but everyone on youtube in the comments are like "the first thing I thought of was iTampon". haha, iPad and their latest mouse the Magic Mouse, I dunno who's naming these things but they should be fired.
I'm no 'fanboy' but we have a Macbook Air, iPhones, iMac en route and the internet running through an Apple time capsule and I was looking forward to having this to leave lying about the place to catch up on News and what not when I needed to, and maybe use it on the train on my way to work, however, I was disappointed to learn that it doesn't do the following;
No flash support - meaning no games on facebook/internet that I like.
No multitasking - I mean come on!! Using just one app at a time, great... I would have thought something like the palm pre would have been awesome, to swipe your finger to switch through your running apps would have been cool. Using Skype and the internet whilst maybe writing emails.
No USB - I would have thought this would have been included! No 3G dongles, or flash drives!!
No SD card slot - again this would have been awesome to take a bunch of pictures on my camera and automatically upload to the iPad to share with the family, but noooooooooo
No camera - WTF, I cannot believe this. It would have made an awesome video phone, for conferencing and speaking with my family etc. Given the 30 day standby on this thing, you could leave Skype running and use it, but they omit a camera, I'm not sure I understand why...
Non OLED screen - that's going to make reading those iBooks difficult. Especially for me as I don't have the best sight.
No video out option - meaning you cannot stream from this to a TV or projector. Not sure how they're going to do that like the key notes suggested.
Lack of networking - I'm no computer guru, but how the hell are you meant to print anything from this thing with no networking capability? I want to be able to print the pictures or emails - not happening?
Anyway, maybe iPad v4 will have a lot of the above?
Eh, I still want one. :chuckle:
Me too, but think I will wait for a later version, like I did with the iPhone.
Agreed. I think v2 will have a lot of the things that we all want, including multitasking, which is my biggest beef with it. I would really like to be reading an iBook while I have an ichat equivalent open.
This. And I'm content that it's only...$500? Cheap. It has pretty much all the functionality I use on this laptop. (Internet andmediaporn). One thing that is ridiculous though is the lack of flash support.
I would rather have this on my knees to browse DV and fap than have my laptop burning a hole in my undies or having to always lean on one side. Will almost definitely buy when a better version comes out.
I'm waiting for the release of a contender that will run Windows 7. Call me a bigot it you like.
Oh man, that's so wrong...*shakes head* :chuckle:
But yeah, I was surprised to see that it is so affordable. Not much more than the iphone. And some might say that you won't be able to draw well or use it as nicely as a tablet, but my argument with that is...I have been able to use my iphone as a really nice mini tablet. Nicer than my Wacom tablet. So I expect great things could happen with this ipad. <--and yes, I too dislike the name :?

I have nothing else to add
What I tell ya...everyone's hatin on it. This will prob be on my christmas list next year. :) Or whenever the newer version comes out. Like you Adam, I waited on the iphone, and am happy I did.
I'm not hating on it--if you like your iPhone/Touch, I'm sure you'll love the iPad, and it's a much better value than either of those devices. They might also pull in some of the olds with the ebook functionality and easy interface.
I might get excited about it if it had two things: flash and a well-stocked magazine store. Really, considering it's marketed mainly as an internet device, no flash is a real head-scratcher, and magazines are the one thing my netbook can't handle well (and certainly can't acquire legitimately).
For me, there's much better value and flexibility in the combination of a reasonably capable (and tetherable) dumbphone, a Windows 7 netbook (which provides an equal or better experience with any and all media, including ebooks) and a powerful desktop at home.
khh and ninja, I think you're speaking different languages. The iPad is, I believe, "unlocked" when it comes to 3G carriers, but not when it comes to applications. It will require extensive power-user machinations to get an unapproved app on the device, and of course it would have to be an app designed specifically for iProducts. People object because a lot of Apple's approval decisions seem to relate more to branding and marketing (both their's and their business partners) than to the user experience.
I usually purchase all new tech at least once to try it out and get my own opinion of it, kinda like food, i'll always try anything once. So i'll be buying this, probably post a review about it if i remember!
Mento...I like the way you operate. :D
Also the fact that everyone seems to hate it has nothing to do with my reasoning for wanting one...uh...hrm...I think. :hrm: Seriously though...when everyone wants something, I tend to say...meh.
^almost kept me from going to see Avatar
So what are the added advantages of this over, say, an iTouch?
It looks like a basic unit that they will expand on with succeeding generations. If they gave us a perfected design to begin with, we wouldn't be able to spend our money on a better one.
Better you than me lulz
I really like the futuristic feel but that's about it. If v.2 is impressively better than I may get it. Looks like a huge ipod touch with better apps. :P
HAHAHAHA me too!
I think flash support should be added in a patch or something. I mean it's not like the hardware has to be updated. But yea that's retarded that it doesn't have it already.
I like the picture with the duct taped iPhones lmao. So good. Personally I think multitasking isn't necessary with this sort of thing. People need to learn to do one thing at a time!
As for the locking apps until they're approves, I think that's a good thing too. Can you imagine how many shit apps that fuck up your phone would be out there if they didn't have that?
Would you sell food in your store if it wasn't FDA approved? Probably not.
Seeker - " I'm waiting for the release of a contender that will run Windows 7"
Pretty sure HP is coming out with one soon. Can't remember what it's called. But just google HP tablet or something.
Nina - Yeah I can see creative people being able to use it well (sort of using it's flaws), but people that just want to draw like they can on paper, nothing compares to a Wacom tablet, especially the ones that have the screen on them.
I think the eBook thing is great. Never seen anything to that before including just programs for computers (turning a pdf in to a book, flipping pages etc.) but I've been waiting for it for a long time. Who can be fucked reading a pdf format book seriously? Also reading it in bed would be good since you don't need a light on, but I'd probably want to dim it down a bit. They should add a realistic look to the 'paper' like a bit browned etc.
Basically though, it's not meant to replace a laptop. Unless you just go on DV and watch porn....
I heard you wont be able to copy and past on the Ipad [/Fai]l
hahaha, nice tommo, way to catch a fail and troll in one post.
Excuse me? Why am i being called a troll?
I was reading an article earlier which said that the Ipad software did not allow for Copy and Pasting while even the IPhone did. I said this because, i would consider this as a personal laptop of sorts due to the price (with a keyboard dock of course) and as such i would need it to perform basic laptop functions like copy and paste, especially for school assignments. Without that, it would make typing up assignments and documents a hassle as it is a somewhat crucial feature that i have come to rely on.
In all seriousness, why am i being called a troll? For having an opinion on a feature this device lacks?
Crucial feature for school assignments that you have come to rely on for plagiarising? (damn that's a retarded word lol)
jkjk
Well the source of your information is trolling then. They would have done this because the iPhone could not copy and paste initially.
Everyone made fun of this, which is why we assumed you were trolling.
Even though it's a joke, i will just say that in my asisgnments i copy and past a lot because i restructure the format of my essays and paragraphs extensively. I'm a big fan of revision....Like the order a sentence comes in or whatever. lol
Okay then, i see your point. But I wasn't trolling, It pisses the fuck out of me when people just call everything i write trolling even if it is not.
The reason i missed this is because i didnt read the whole thread, just the OP.
"edit" Thank you Mementori, I appreciate it.
my apologies
