My Personal Journey: A Day by Day Account on My Lucid Dreaming Abilities

Hey guys. I just joined the site today, and it is awesome. There is such a wealth of information here that I spent about 3 hours reading and soaking it all in. Anyways, the basis of this post is to keep a record of training myself to lucid dream over time. Here is goes!

Day 1

I discover DreamViews.com and look into everything I can over lucid dreaming. I start taking note of if I am or am not dreaming and start doing a reality check every 30 minutes or so by trying to blow through my nose while it is pinched. I've taken a spiral notebook and set it up a Dream Journal that will keep track of my dreams every day. Before I sleep tonight, I will repeat the mantra 'I will wake up after every dream.'

Since you're keeping a journal (record) of your experiences, you may want to look into the Dreamviews Blogs that we have. They have lots of utilities that may help you track your progress better than the thread can. The blogs are here: Dreamviews Lucid Dreaming Community & Resource - Recent DJ Posts - Dream Journals

In them, you can label things like notes (like today's entry is), normal dreams, lucid dreams... you can create tags to help you recognize dream signs, too :)

For now, though, I'm going to move this thread to the Lucid Experiences forum, since undoubtedly, this thread will be a record of your experiences :)

Hello hello, and welcome to DV. I'm rather new in terms of lucid dreaming too. May your lucid dreaming experiences be enjoyable.

Day 2

Unfortunately I was not able to wake myself after a dream last night. I don't remember falling asleep with the thought of 'Waking up after a dream' in my mind, so I'll try again tonight. I did remember shards of about three dreams, but nothing large and no signs that I know of (just a lot of buildings, a grassy plain, and flying in a orb-like machine). I'm still conditioning myself to ask periodically if I am dreaming, count my fingers, blow into my nose while it is pinched, etc. I'm just now realizing how long conditioning myself might take :P.

welcome to dream views! I suggest if you are into mantras to check into the method MILD, and also search up some of stephen laberge's work it may help you! also sometimes good concentration and determination help to dream or lucid dream, just before you go to sleep I suggest you slate your mind and let your concentration take over, but dont stress yourself. good luck! I hope you have many lucids!

I do have a quick question about something I've been seeing around.
What is a dream guide?

Actually, a dream guide, while dreaming is under a lot of debate. For me, it's a person (mine is named Danny) that I can call for and he appears. Often, he teaches me things, and is able to help me out with goals that are a bit hard for me to do. I think of my dream guide on a spiritual level.

Great! It sounds so interesting. Finding all of this stuff out about our subconscious is so amazing to me. Now we can start to figure out what the other 90% of our brain does while the other 10% is hard at work! :D

Day Three

I successfully woke up after a dream last night and recorded it into a Dream Journal. The Reality Checks are still a part of my daily routine.

Day Four

Only got about 4 hours of sleep, so I was pretty tired when I woke up and couldn't remember any dreams. Still conditioning myself.

Day Five

I had three dreams last night and remembered all of them. I recorded them in my dream journal. Still conditioning myself with Reality Checks.

What's your current RC philosophy?

Try to make a specific RC a part of my daily routine, like every thirty minutes or so do one. Should I try to improve on that?

It depends... what I mean by philosophy is... reality checks shouldn't become habitual. You would be doing yourself a great disservice, if they did. 1 hour or 30 minutes is fine, but what I'm prying you for is how you're currently performing your reality checks :)

Oh! Well like I'll walk through a doorway and try to breathe through my nose while it's pinched and say something like, "Am I dreaming?" out loud, and proceed to look around and answer "No."

Definitely a good start. I have a follow up suggestion for you to try :)

First of all, why is your answer a no? Really think about this one, because in a dream, you may automatically tell yourself, "This feels to real to be dreaming." Which is a big old boooo! We don't want that. One of the best techniques is a memory game. Look at what you're wearing. Do you remember putting your clothes on in the morning? What were you doing that led you to this doorway? What were you doing 5 minutes ago?

So, you truly are awake at this moment... The next follow up is to imagine what you would do if you actually were in a dream at this moment. It's good to ingrain a routine into your mind that would see yourself performing the reality check (pinch nose, try breathing), it passes (you can breathe!) and stabilizing the dream (rub your hands together, view your dream space, interact with something, like touching one of the walls, or an object). As you build this up day to day, the chances are greater that it'll carry over into your LD. It's very important to take a moment to keep your cool and stabilize. Not stabilizing won't wreck the dream (I always forget to, lol!), but I truly believe it helps prolong the life of the dream and will make controlling it a bit easier.

Day Six

Hey Andromeda, this is a genuinely important part of lucid dreaming. Keep this up, it will help you to no end. And Serenity, thank you for your words. I've been at this for two years now, but clearly voiced, vivid advice is like a splash of fresh water.

Days Seven and Eight

Visited my cousin at Texas A&M over the weekend, so between partying and hanging out, there wasn't much time for sleep. When I did sleep it was for only around 3-4 hours each.

I was about to offer help but I think Serenity got the lead.

All I can say from here, follow Serenity's advice. She is awesome, she has extended knowledge and she always loves to help!

Day Nine

Did not recall any dreams last night. I tried to WILD, but fell asleep without going lucid.

Sometimes, WILDs will lead to unintentional DILDs :) I guess not this time, but it's something to look forward to :)

I've also dreamed about going to sleep, and WILD'ed from within the dream :D I guess the whole key here is to keep going to sleep thinking about lucidity :) It will pop up in surprising ways!

Day Ten

I had a very long dream last night, but unfortunately waited to write it down so I forgot most of it. I posted it in my online DJ.

Day Eleven

Another very long dream, with most of it taking place in a classroom. However, it's all fragments.

My internet has been down since Thursday night, so I'll fill y'all in with what I remember from Thursday and Friday.

Also, on Wednesday, I took my first MILD-1 class hosted by PercyLucid.


Day Twelve

Had a good night's sleep tonight and woke up feeling refreshed. Throughout the day, I was relaxed and did an assortment of RCs and Mantras that I started before the class as well as some new mantras that I started after Wednesday's lecture. I didn't really watch TV at all Thursday, nor get on my computer (because I didn't have internet access). As I fell asleep I periodically affirmed that 'I will lucid dream soon' and tried my best to fall asleep with that in mind. Unfortunately I can't remember the dream(s) I had that night.

Day Thirteen

I was pretty stressed throughout the day due to three tests that I had in school. I didn't focus as much on my RCs or Mantras due to the tests as well. I really only started to remember my LD training about an hour before bed. During this time, I focused on my mantras and read a few chapters in my book before bed. I read Armor, by John Steakley, and this really influenced one of my dreams because the book was the setting for the dream. But that alone is just fragments and I can not remember any other dreams from that night.

My internet *should* be okay from now on, so expect more consistent posting! :D

Post here every day! The biggest problem people seem to have is losing motivation and just not trying as hard or taking breaks. If it seems you're posting a bunch of boring failure entries each day, don't worry, I find it very interesting to see how many failures it takes to produce a success...

I really hate my life right now.

I wrote up a HUGE dream I had last night and pressed command 'a' to select it all and copy paste it to my MILD journal, but my finger managed to hit 'q' as well, closing not only Firefox, but my 4000 word dream entry as well :(.

Oh, well. I guess I'll have to type it up again when I'm not in such a sour mood :P.

Good luck with the dreaming...I've been here since earlier this year but have only managed to have 1 LD. I'm working on doing an RC whenever I see one of my recurring DC's in real life.

At least you didn't do that on a tiny handheld device... :bang:

A quick tip - in the mornings try to look for a chain of signs that you aren't dreaming (for example, you wake up and read your alarm clock several times. pass. go to the bathroom. light works. do a quick nose RC. now you know you aren't dreaming and you are good for the day. however, still do them when waking up and when going to sleep)

Awesome, thanks guys. So far everything has been normal.
I have a few dreams where my Reality Checks are, well, realistic. I tried to blow out of my pinched nose and air came out. Then I tried to put my hand through the other hand and it didn't go through.

Percy's MILD class has been helpful too, and I've been trying to incubate a dream for the past couple of days. We'll see how it goes.

So you just lost motivation and gave up on us? where you at?
