Meaning of my appearance in a lucid dream
Hello,
Most of the time I do not see myself in dreams, for my persecptive in them is the same as waking life. That is, I can see my arms, legs, etc, from my eyes only.
Today I had a lucid dream. I don't recall what changed it from regular to lucid, but I do know that the first thing I saw was the reflection of my face in wall mirror. It looked as if I had been beaten up because both the whites of my eyes were red from blood, I had black eyes, and my left big tooth was knocked out. In fact, I could feel the hole where the tooth went.
My appearance didn't bother me and so I got excited that I was in a lucid dream. I felt the dream ending, and so I imagined myself jumping through the floor above my head. And it worked! I went through the floor and saw the inside of it and then from above. It was really neat because I always wanted to do that after reading above others being able to.
So, the dream was fun, but I'd like to know why I might have had that beaten up appearance, and been able to see myself in a mirror. I haven't gotten in fights since grade 9, lol.

Oh, good question.
Dreams source out of the Higher Mind which is very oriented toward Spirituality. Now, consider what Spirituality is, as opposed to animality. The Dream Mind wishes to convince us of our existence as Spirits that transcend our animal bodies. Often this takes the form of showing us our bodies as sick or diseased, or sometimes as different bodies altogether -- men seeing themselves as women and women as men. All this is to help us lose our identification to the body.
We will all someday die, and when we do, we have to be able to depart and leave the body. By seeing our bodies as beat up and diseased, it helps us to lose our overwhelming attachment to it, which could cause us to haunt our own corpses when we die.
Also, it may be some indication that we should endeavor to adopt some more spiritual appearance in our dreams. We need to wonder whether it is compulsory whether we really need to maintain the same appearance and body form in our Dream Life as we do in our Waking Life.
Why be in some sickly beat up body when we could be like an Angel?

A question: If I become lucid already having that physical appearance, then how I can not have such appearances in the future if I truly wish to be free of this physicality? Is it only after being lucid that I can make the concious choice to not have such an appearance? Should I desire to be without form?

No, it is not always necessary to be Lucid. In the olden days of Dream Work, people did not even know about Lucid Dreaming. They would simply work on their Dreams through repeated auto-suggestion and affirmation. We would go over dreams in our minds and fantasize alternative actions. We would daydream about our dreams while in alpha-state. This concern about our Dreaming would indeed seep down to the Subconscious Mind and our dreams would be influenced in the direction of our intent, that is, of course, if the Subconscious Mind agreed. As with Lucid Dreaming, the agenda of the Subconscious Mind always has to be considered. As they say in Taoism, it is easier to swim with the current then against it.
Developing a Lucid Dreaming Checklist, and using Auto-suggestion and Affirmation while using Alpha State daydreaming to imagine the direction you wish your dreams to take, can work as well today as it did thirty years ago, before Lucid Dreaming, and it can help you in your Lucid Dreaming, now that it is one of the tools we have in Dreaming -- an important tool, to be sure, but not the only tool.
Now, about Body Image. I wish I had done more work in that direction. And I am not privy to any literatures or studies or ancient treatises that focused on the issue. Yet, it is a common concern amoung advanced dreamers. Sickness and Injury of one's own Physical Body Image while sometimes dreaming of being in alternate Body Images. It must be leading to some ultimate objective, which I am only guessing about. But much of my job is in making guesses, which are tested through for result, and I'm pretty good at it.

You wrote that such images are a common concern amongst advanced dreamers. I don't consider myself an advanced dreamer, for what is a good definition. I just wonder why I had sleep paralysis, OBE, and can always re-enter the same dream I awoke from, etc, without actually trying. It's only after learning that such things exist and have names did I read info on it and try to get better. It's just that I read on here that people try all these different means of attaining lucidity and sleep paralysis and I merely have to desire to have it -- even after not having it for months. I wanted to have it back and a day later I did. There has to be more to this all than my waking mind, something much much deeper for it to all make sense.
If I lucid dream or have SP again tonight, I'll take a look at myself. That is, if it doesn't get too freaky. :)
