My Life Has Changed

Around 7-8 months ago I began to look into lucid dreaming, I attempted to try it for a while before receiving no result. Yesterday night It seems that just before morning I had a lucid dream. The only part I remember was actually becoming lucid, I was in a car and looked at the driver. It was my Dad driving the car, It clicked in my mind that since he is in Kuwait this situation was not possible...Anyhow, I recalled everything I had learned previously about how not to get too excited etc. All was going well, one way or another I ended up in my room, hoping my Dad would leave or go to sleep so that I could use the lucid dream for the first thing I could think of (Sex). Anyhow, for some reason my Dad was in the room and had collapsed onto the bed. I immediately stood up and walked towards the door, just as I stood up a girl I knew in real life entered the room. This is when I lost lucidity. Well...I lost the dream, I could see blackness, I was still asleep yet still aware that I was sleeping. Anyhow, I decided "Damn that's over, better wake up". I opened my eyes staring at my ceiling, and looked down the end of my bed. There was a girl kneeling, to describe the girl I would tell you to imagine that girl from the grudge, except with shoulder-length hair, I saw no face as the hair had covered it. Anyhow, she came toward me very quickly saying "Hiya" in a very excited high-toned voice. I only had my eyes open for less than a second literally before shutting them because of how terrified I was. I remember my heart literally thumping my chest with how scared I was. I had my eyes closed and simply thought to myself that this couldn't be happening, I re-opened them and noone was there. I have been told by some people that this was a case of sleep paralysis. To be honest with you I didn't try to move or speak nor did I really want to. It has shaken me up quite badly and i'm having trouble sleeping now incase it happens again even though the situation only lasted around 8 seconds. Is there a reason as to why I had my first lucid dream AND sleep paralysis on the same night? Are they related?

Yes, sleep paralysis goes hand in hand with not only LD but sleeping as well.

What you experienced there was a false awakening, probably bleeding over into a true awakening. All I can say is enjoy the experience and be ready for the next time. False awakenings happen quite often to lucid dreamers. You could have taken advantage of the situation to continue your lucid journeys!

well considering that sleep paralysis is the step before enter a lucid dreaming while doing the wild technique i would say yes, there is a reason you had them both on the same night. sounds you successly did a wild, congratulations! sorry it had to be a scary one though.

There was no way I was still asleep, I could remember KNOWING what I had opened my eyes to was reality except for that girl. I closed my eyes and re-opened them after a few seconds, the room was still the same just without the girl. If anything I would just say it was an odd hallucination. Its definately shaken me up a fair bit, I gave up on trying to lucid dream a long time ago. That girl was damn evil....my step-dad has encountered the same thing a few months ago. A shadowy figure in his doorway.

False awakenings can be so incredibly lifelike, it is uncanny. I would tend to believe that is what you had.

Of course I wasn't there, so I don't know for sure, but it is easier for me to believe. And a lot less scarey for you as well. :)

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

in any case, it defenately wasn't real so it was either a dream, or a side effect from your dream (hallucination). i wouldn't be too worried about it. nightmares are gunna happen, you just have to know that they aren't real.

As to your first post casualtie, I didn't "successfully" do anything since I wasn't trying to Lucid Dream. This was only a few nights ago and I gave up trying to lucid dream months ago. I might try getting into this lucid dreaming again, but I don't want that SP to happen again. I can safely say that was the scariest thing that has happened in my life. I thought I was in a horror movie. I really believe strongly that it was reality just with a weird hallucination, I find it hard to believe that it was a dream. The enviroment was real just not her.

well if you weren't trying to LD then i agree with what seeker said. i think it was a false awakening. false awakenings feel exactly like a real awakening, just in your case their was that girl there.

im guessing when you closed your eyes you told yourself you were dreaming and that is what woke you up :content:

Haven't been on this site since I posted this thread back in September, but I suppose it's a place where I can tell my experiences and keep a sort of Journal.

It happened again, but this time not with a lucid dream. I had a fairly bad nightmare last night, it shook me up very badly, I haven't had a nightmare that I was aware of since a few years ago, was kind of odd really. I awake to find myself staring at the same blackness with my eyes closed, I opened them and sat up, thinking about the nightmare I had just awoken from. I looked immediately towards the mirror in the corner of my room. She was just standing there, staring at me, no movement at all, I closed my eyes, reopened them as it seemed to work back in September - The 1st time I experienced this. She just stayed there, staring at me, the process going through my head at the time was "This is real, this is very real, run." But I kept closing and opening my eyes, and eventually, she just faded away. Yet again I'm writing this post at 4.27 AM, unable to sleep out of fear with another experience I'll never forget. I really hope this isn't some sort of mental disorder.

I don't think it's a mental disorder seeing as it only happens when you are sleeping. I had this experience once. I was sleeping and thought I had woken up and this guy came into my room and he looked all creepy and sinister. I screamed at him and tried to get up to defend myself, but I couldn't move. So I just laid there freaked out until he left.

As Seeker said, this is known as FA or false awakening. Some FAs are also accompanied by an "old hag" and many people have experienced it. People usually talk about how they "wake up" and were paralyzed and there was a shadowy figure coming toward them. It frightens them and they wake up for real. In my understanding, what is really happening is that your body is still in Sleep Paralysis even though your mind is attempting to wake up. As your mind is waking up, there is still a part of it that wants to dream so you may see an old hag.

I suggest that when you find yourself in that blackness as you call it, expect that you are going to see this girl again when you wake up. If you expect it than it shouldn't be as frightening. Try to interact with the girl instead of trying to run, you may be surprised as to what she says to you. Just remember that she cannot hurt you in any way.

Now if you start having hallucinations during the day when you haven't been sleeping, this may be a sign of a mental disorder and you should think about going to a psychiatrist. But seeing as how it only happens after you are sleeping/dreaming, you don't need to be worried. It may be scary, by try to make the best of it, and remember that many people experience it as well. Hmm, thanks for your reply guys. You see, people have told me it's a False Awakening, but as I woke up the second time, I sat up in my bed and saw her, so yes, It was more of a hallucination, I was definately awake. Also, as another note, I AM able to move so it really isn't sleep paralysis, I can move and everything. I should really of mentioned this, but while I was sat up and especially the 1st time, my mind feels kind of weird. It's like right after you've woken up and your eyelids are heavy and your mind sort of confused. It's very hard to explain. I really should of mentioned this before, but the nightmare I had before waking up was about this girl that I awake to.

P.S Don't call her an old hag...she won't like that. =S

Things can resurface out of nowhere, but usually it seems something has to trigger it. The hallucination you describe is also quite strange and rather disturbing. I would say it is a false awakening as well, but I am not completely sure about that, at least from the way you describe it. Next time it happens, perform a RC just in case.

When you made her fade away by blinking, did you then get up and turn on your computer, or did you try to fall asleep again?

I have had something very similar happen to me. I was trying to WILD and I fell asleep. I woke up later (still at night) and I heard a really loud screeching noise. I was freaking out because it was real. Everything was so GD realistic it never even crossed my mind that I might be dreaming. Then something started to crawl out of the mirror in my room and I was terrified. I got up and ran out of my room. I knew it was coming for me and I was freaking out. I did the nose-pinch reality check just to make sure, and it was a dream. False Awakining. I decided to go kick its ass, but I woke up for real. O well. Thats why I think you probably just had a false awakining, it sounds exactly like what hapened to me. Just do a reality check next time. Good luck.

The incident hasn't been on mind much lately as compared to any other day. There will be times where I will just randomly remember it but not any more than usual. It could very well be a false awakening, but as I said, the other day I had actually SAT UP in my bed to see it, after it was gone, I got out of my bed and headed downstairs. She really doesn't stay for long, it's about 10 seconds of pure terror for me, it's so real yet I know it can't be. If it happens again I'll attempt a reality check, but I doubt it'd be the first thing on my mind, I'll probably just want to make it stop. Considering there is a gap of 3-4 months I find it rather odd that she has randomly come up again. Last time it was caused by a lucid dream, this time by a nightmare (I haven't had a nightmare that I'm aware of in YEARS.) It seems that both of these dreams are somewhat...more intense than all my other dreams, what's more is that I can remember EVERY single detail of both dreams, including my lucid dream back in September. There's also an image from my nightmare which is pretty much burned into my mind since it was actually a lot worse than most nightmares I've had.

As I stated in my original post, around a year or 2 ago I attempted to lucid dream with no success and decided to give up, back in September I just had a random unintentional lucid dream which is how I saw her the first time, since then I haven't had any weird or abnormal dreams including lucid dreams. (Weird thing to note is since I've seen her, my dream recall has improved GREATLY. Before her I would NEVER remember my dreams but this could just be because of the lucid dream also, I pretty much remember all my dreams now but usually only some parts and details.) Well, it's hard to explain, I looked over, and she was there and as 2 seconds passed with my eyes open, she would fade, but then I'd blink and she would come back, and fade and basically repeated this until she just kind of went away. After it had happened, I was too shaken up to go back to sleep, I wasn't really in the mood for staying in my bedroom either (Where my computer is) so It would be best to head downstairs. It's amazing the feeling I get after it's happened, for about a minute or so, before I leave my room I'll still feel my heart thumping and the terror upon me, but as soon as I head downstairs I just kind of...forget about it, the decline in how scared I am is a bit odd. But then later in the day I just kind of remembered it and it really hit me that it had happened again. This was the case both times, the true reality of what I had seen didn't affect me as much until later in the day.

hmmm..I am going to have to disagree with most of everyone here. I dont think this is a false awakening. I've had plenty of false awakenings where you are visited by the hag. in most scenarios you do not see the hag, you only feel the hag putting pressure on you. in other scenarios the hag is and always is a shadowy figure, not a detailed figure with clothes and such.

in false awakenings even though the room is extremely life like, its only life like so long as you are asleep. I mean, in the end you can tell it was a false awakening becuase YOU WAKE UP. Its one thing not being able to tell its a dream when you are dreaming, its another not being able to tell reality when you are awake. I believe if someone claims they were awake, they were. Becuase the alternative is suggesting they have a mental problem. I mean, you just know in the end if you were awake or not. I dont think OTHER people should be telling you that you can not distinguish reality, becuase that is suggesting you have a mental problem.

I believe something else is happening, and its happened to me before. I have woken up and seen things in my bedroom, I mostly think of them as after-dream-images. When I was little it was always a man in a black hooded robe. Mostly he faded right after I woke up, but one time he lasted for longer I ended up screaming at him until he disappeared. I was not in a false awakening, my mom can testify to me screaming that day. And during christmas season that year when ever I woke up there was a crying baby in the center of the christmas reef in my room, which was amusing becuase my baby cousin would always cry if she had to look at that damn reef. As my eyes slowly adjusted to the morning light, the screaming baby in the reef would slowly disappear.

anyhoot, I think its perfectly possible to see things directly after waking up. I do believe in the supernatural, however I dont necessarily think after-dream-images ARE supernatural. I think they are just what they are, after-dream-images. When people look for more credited ghost experiences, one of the first things they take into account is how awake you are :bigteeth: sleepy minds really can see things. dreams might as well be hallucinations with our eyes closed.

if the mirror is causing so much distress, get rid of it!!! whether or not this is a hallucination, if you have any fear while sleeping it can manifest itself as a nightmare or some other nightmarish vision. Get rid of your fear, one way or the other! happy sleeping and have happy lucids!

Thanks for your reply Juroara. I agree with you that I could definately distinguish it as being reality. I'm quite a skeptical person myself, I don't believe in ghosts or spirits in any form, it's just the realism of her that really gets to me. My dog sleeps at the end of my bed every night and yet he hasn't reacted either time this has happened. It's not the mirror that causes it, that's just where she was standing, infront of it, to be honest I should of checked for a reflection. My real thoughts on this are that some parts of my brain aren't waking up and are instead still trying to generate images of some sort, but I'm no expert on matters of this. Hence why I came here.

I would also say it sounds like after-sleep images (but what the heck, I'm no expert), or it IS a demon, or maybe an angel? Or maybe it's 0:30 here and I need to go to sleep already :P

After sleep images is what I'd place money on. I'm quite skeptical about things such as demons and angels, although I suppose anything is possible.

Heh, I'll attempt to keep a record in this thread of any future encounters. I'm not exactly hoping I see her anytime soon. Also, about the interaction with her all I can say is that I'll try, but there's no promises I won't just freeze up like I have both of these times. Thanks for all your comments.

If so, try learning to sleep on your stomach, that way when you wake up most of the time that could be spent on freaking out at after-dream images could be spent looking at your pillow or something. :content:

Actually, I usually ALWAYS fall asleep on my stomach, facing to the left (Not sure why, can't sleep facing right or on my back) but I seem to always wake up on my back, kind of odd. And I didn't really EXPECT to see her again so It really didn't come to me to NOT sit up, I just thought it was another normal morning. I'll keep my current sleeping method and see whether she appears again.

I've decided to actually start doing reality checks to try and see false awakenings or lucid dreams and hoping this will help in a way.
