I'd say exclusive monotheism, not neccesarily "religion", has fucked up out planet. I have no problem with malleable polytheist religions, such as the greeco-roman pantheon, and pre-christian "pagan" religions, or for that matter, non-theistic forms of spirituality such as Buddhism. Hinduism sits on the line, for me... it is polytheistic, but on the other hand, it has an exclusive pantheon - which means, it can't "mesh" with other cultures in the same way that the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian panthoens "mixed".
EDIT: Though, I'm not completely sure of the exclusivity of the Hindu pantheon - Unfortunately, I have little more than a cursory knowledge of the Hindu religion.
