True, the chapters where God goes to Mars and bosses around all of the giant ants are often glossed over.
Of course the Bible focuses on humans, dipshit.

Yeah, the anger from u guys is so great u could fill a house with it.
I thought we came here to discuss our views. Apparantly all I see here are atheists who insult christians for our views. Something has to be said!
P.S not a good metaphor I know
Ps.s Please have tolerance on these R&S forums!!!!!!!!!
I almost stoped reading this when Vee started talking about telepathic red deer. Anyway, My church teaches that God is not only the God of this world, but the God of the Universe. It is believed that this earth is not unique, but one of many of his creations. As such, it is believed that there are other worlds that are peopled and that they would also have been created in his image and after his likeness similar to this world. Though the LDS Church has not explicitly adopted any official doctrines on the existence or absence of extraterrestrials, there are a number of scriptural passages in the church's scriptural canon which can be interpreted as implying the existence of life on other planets in the universe.
Like I said, "there are a number of scriptural passages in the church's scriptural canon which can be interpreted as implying the existence of life on other planets," and "the LDS Church has not explicitly adopted any official doctrines on the existence or absence of extraterrestrials". I just want to make it clear that Mormons don't nessisarly believe in aliens.
While the book of Abraham makes mention of a star called Kolob, there is no mention of life outside of earth in our scripture. However some non-doctrinal statments from church leaders state a belife in extraterrestrial life such as;
[Edit] Here's the acual scripture that I was refuring to. Abr. 3: 2-18 talks about Kolob.Quote:
"We do not know how many inhabited worlds there are, or where they are. But certainly we are not alone."
-Neil A. Maxwell
I get your clarification, and I understand what you're saying.
As a point of clarification for anybody else who is curious, the Book of Abraham is a part of the Mormon's "Pearl of Great Price," not one of the 66 more commonly-canonized books of the Bible.
First of all, yes, the bible does state how man is insignificant COMPARED to God and so forth:
Isaiah 40:15: Look! The nations are as a drop from a bucket; and as the film of dust on the scales they have been accounted. Look! He lifts the islands themselves as mere fine [dust].
17:All the nations are as something nonexistent in front of him; as nothing and an unreality they have been accounted to him
Psalms 62:9: Indeed the sons of earthling man are an exhalation,
The sons of mankind are a lie.
When laid upon the scales they are all together lighter than an exhalation.
Jeremiah 10:23: I well know, O God, that to earthling man his way does not belong. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.
Proverbs 20:24: From Jehovah are the steppings of an able-bodied man. As regards earthling man, how can he discern his way?
Psalms 144:3-4: O Jehovah, what is man that you should notice him,
The son of mortal man that you should take account of him? Man himself bears resemblance to a mere exhalation;
His days are like a passing shadow.
So you notice, the Psalmist asked kinda the same question you did. Notice here:
Pslams 8:4:
What is mortal man that you keep him in mind,
And the son of earthling man that you take care of him?
5 You also proceeded to make him a little less than godlike ones,
And with glory and splendor you then crowned him.
6 You make him dominate over the works of your hands;
Everything you have put under his feet:
7 Small cattle and oxen, all of them,
And also the beasts of the open field,
8 The birds of heaven and the fish of the sea,
Anything passing through the paths of the seas.
9 O Jehovah our Lord, how majestic your name is in all the earth!
Hebrews 2:6: But a certain witness has given proof somewhere, saying: “What is man that you keep him in mind, or [the] son of man that you take care of him? 7 You made him a little lower than angels; with glory and honor you crowned him, and appointed him over the works of your hands.
The reason why man is different from any other creatures is because we are the only creature that God made in HIS image. We have the superior qualities of love, wisdom, justice, and power and we have free will.
God does not only pay attention to humans. He of course cares for ALL of his creation:
Matthew 10:29: Do not two sparrows sell for a coin of small value? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without YOUR Father’s [knowledge]. 30 But the very hairs of YOUR head are all numbered. 31 Therefore have no fear: YOU are worth more than many sparrows.
Also, just because animals are subject to humans, it doesn't mean that they treat them however they want.
Notice Proverbs 12:10: The righteous one is caring for the soul of his domestic animal, but the mercies of the wicked ones are cruel.
The bible refers specifically to humans because the bible was specifically made by humans who had God's spirit. God also has spirit creatures in heaven who are all important to him, and they are greater than man. They are with him in the heavenly realm.
By the way I don't share the belief that all good people go to heaven.
Why are you so obsessed with Christianity Seismosaur? Have you nothing better to do than to perpetually talk about something you don't actually believe in? Thats just sad.
Look, I don't believe in Santa Claus and you probably don't either. Wouldn't it then seem pathetic if I kept making posts after post, and topic after topic, about how Santa doesn't exist...all the mean while justifying such fanaticism as "intellectual curiosity"?
Cut the shit and move on. Why do you even make these topics? What do you get out of it? Do you feel better about yourself when you do this? Does it make you feel smart or something? I mean, its obvious you do it to make religion (more specifically Christianity) look rediculous, but why?
help me understand...:rolleyes:
Wait, more insults? From Neruo? I would have never guessed it! You have such sensible logic!
May I remind you that the only way you ever discredit others is by telling them they are stupid or wrong?
Oh man, do I feel cool right now.
Btw, according to polls, 90% of people in America believe in God. Are we all fanatics, Neruo? Why don't you lead us to sanity with some more insults?
My personal opinion is that, if pre-enlightenment era humans were introduced to the idea of life on other planets... These species would most likely spawn new religions with them as the focus.
Most people act like god was dealing with humans that were like we are now... But most modern thought started over a millenia from the bible.
That said, I'm glad to see that Neruo is lively as ever... hats off to thee.
Great 'argument' ninja, I mean, not like there is a strong relation between Intelligence and religion, riiiight? :) Only the really sad idiots are fanatics, or the problemed people, like you. Actually, you might be both, I don't know.
Also, I rather insult people by telling them they are twats than I would insult human dignity by acting like a religious twat.
:boogie::boogie::boogie:
I wrote this in another thread. Neruo, give me an argument as to why this is wrong.
"I'm old enough to know that being alive is nothing ordinary, that it is in fact impossible. Picture this: just this moment, you popped into existence. From absolute nothingness, you are suddenly a conscious being, reading this forum (let's just imagine you could interpret language). You look around, you see your surroundings, your body, etc. You are suddenly radiating with life after an un-godly amount of time when you didn't exist. But now, you do! But why???? How in the hell did you just pop into existence from absolutely nothing? It is silly to think that there isn't some absolutely, insanely, incredible power that is completely beyond our comprehension that made this miracle happen. In the above scenario, you popped into existence just now, completely conscious and aware, out of the void. The switch was off and now it's been turned on. In such a case it would be absolutely certain that something with incredible power made that happen. But this is exactly what happens every day when people are born! It happens when the first moment consciousness arises in the fetus, out of complete nothingness comes an entity of awareness.
I'm old enough to know that as a child and adolescent life doesn't seem very special. It's all very normal and routine: wake up, brush your teeth, shower, dress, etc. It's not until you realize that life is not at all normal that it will become obvious to you that God does in fact exist. When you wake up tomorrow morning, I want you to imagine it is your first morning waking up, the very first day of your life. If you can picture that, you may begin to have a new appreciation for your consciousness and begin to see the incredible, infinite power sustaining said consciousness.
I exist, and I know with certainty there is a God."
