Here's a fun little way to test if you're dreaming. Well, it's only fun the first couple of times, but I imagine if you set it to your homepage on your computer, it will work pretty well.

Oh, look at this, a tutorial made by the Dream Guide team on Reality Checking. It seems to contradict the whole key point to your technique.

For those who don't want to sift through to see what I'm talking about, it's right here:
EDIT: Now, with that said, the point to what they're saying is not to do it habitually. You can do it at a high frequency, but actually be AWARE and put a conscious effort into it every time you RC. Otherwise you could RC in a dream without paying attention to the results, and not even notice that something strange has happened.Quote:

Second and third night:
No LDs, just increased dream recall.
That's why THIS thread is interesting!!! I tried RCing that focus on Quality a million times- and it NEVER works (for me at least)!!!
Now what I do to avoid absentmindedness is as follows:
I glance at my digital clock (or a written word or number...) three times. If it didn't change I tell myself with words (in my mind): "I'm awake" or "this is not a dream" .... It takes a second, and it is efficient! so far though- no LDs.... we'll wait and see ^^
Well, I started this yesterday. I must have done a grand total of 10-20 RC's, along with every time I woke up. I woke up in one of my dreams and knew something was up (though I thought I was supposed to be sleeping downstairs, and I wasn't even in my house). I looked at my watch. It first said 10:40. As I turned it to look away, I saw it "glitch" like in the Matrix. I stared at it, commanding it to move, and it did. Bada-bing, bada-boom. First lucid on my first try with only 20 RC's. And you want to know the even weirder part? I haven't had a lucid in almost a month until last night.
I plan on it. Instead of swamping your subconscious with habits such as Reality Checking, you need to find key times to do it. For instance, when you wake up (I did read that you were supposed to RC when you wake up because of possible FA's, so that may have influenced the dream). Either way, when you wake up, when you question something, when you're having trouble understanding or following what's going on, and whenever you think about dreaming. Otherwise, it becomes more of a subconscious habit that doesn't help much.
I had another LD last night. It was an RC induced lucid FA. In layman's terms, I did a reality check, and found out it was a false awakening. For the second night in a row.
Well, I tried a WILD last night, and I don't remember if this was before or after the WILD, so I won't count it. Either way, I wanted to include it. One of the reasons I think it may have been from the WILD was that it seems I was almost thrust into the dream. The first thing I remember is being in a vent shaft with some woman who is yelling at me. She's trying to get me to hurry up, possibly to go and save something. I suddenly realize this is all very strange and glance at my watch. I'm dreaming. But, for some reason, I decided the task at hand was more important and went on my way. I quickly lost lucidity and then woke up.
Lol
OK ----- RESULTS :
(Despite what I wrote, I didn't use supplements)
All 10 days:
*NO DILDs.... :(
*Increased dream recall and vividness (significant)
*Increased HIs
*Easier to fall asleep (I'm insomniac)
*WILDs were not effected
I want to thank everyone who tries methods and posts results - it helps a lot!!! :)
Well, I tried for ten days and got two DILD's directly related to the method. Nothing else significant. I fail to see how an RC would give you better dream recall and more HI's, though.
Every 5 min. (not oniman7 though, he did the usual way...)
I have a theory:Quote:

It's not the RC, but rather the activating of a certain memory mechanism that has to do with remembering to do something all the time... (I intentionally DIDN'T use a stop watch, and tried really hard not to miss any RCs)... When I read what the other guys said about increased vividness I was also baffled. I was amazed to have such extremely vivid dreams every night!!!
I'm thinking of ways to use this phenomena for actually inducing lucidity.... I'll post if there's anything interesting.
Hi thread! I see you're dead :(
I haven't been to DV in a while....
I guess it's really selfish of me because right after my last post, I had some pretty crazy things happening to me... those are as follows:
* I DID have my WILDS abilities GREATLY improved! I had many WILDS!
* Then I had the worst insomnia of my life!! few months I think, with very little sleep.... sucks.... :(
* I also want to point out again, that whlie doing this method, I had a constant "high" all day.... A wonderful bonus to my life...
Well.... I will love to hear what other people have to say... especially those who tried this technique. ^^
I'll probably try it in a couple of days, will be hard with my 1-2 minute RC's and the fact that I go to school though :P
Auto-suggestion > RCs. RCs are not always reliable, it's a pain and a hassle to keep up all day every day, and when you use auto-suggestion, the feeling and knowledge that you're dreaming comes up naturally and you don't need to RC.
I try to do rcs about every 30 min but during school i just dont remember :(
seeimg as though i dont remember to do anything i set my phone to remind me every 5 min starting tomorrow after i get out of school. i'll just have to remember to do them during school by myself.
Nearly all my LDs were a result of me remembering to do an RC whilst in a dream. Other than that I've only become lucid Spontaniously, seemingly without reason.
Somehow my RC-success had stopped after a while and now I never remember to RC in my dreams anymore. I still do plentyfull RCs in Waking Life.
Maybe this is because RC-ing has become so normal to be that I do it on autopilot rather than consciously take the time. I've been having a 3 year dryspell since with Horrible dreamrecall, sometimes some better recall and an occasional, short lucid.
This one time I wanted to do an RC and somehow I felt VERY focussed on the RC; Like all other thoughts and external distractions were suddenly absent so the RC got the fullest of my attention: Interresting to note is that night I had a Lucid Dream as a result from an RC.
So I guess for an RC, or really anything, to be succesfull and effective you need to give it your fullest attention. Focus on the RC and the answer it brings and nothing else.
Again, I don't think it's the RC itself, but rather the utilizing of a special kind of memory. Hence the improvement in WILDs and not DILDs...
Everyone who tried this method reported increased vividness....
Few tips:
* Do a simple and quick check (e.g looking at the digits of your watch 3 times... didn't change-----> you're awake)
* Don't use an alarm clock every 5 mins, but you can every hour, in case you totally forgot... THE POINT IS TO REMEMBER YOURSELF.
* Do WBTBs to get WILDs
* Don't eat too much, you'll get fat...
i wear a bracelet on my arm everday so would a good RC be to read the words on it, look away, then read it again.
i also use my phone to remind me every 5 min because i wouldnt remember otherwise
