Can't decide between left and right
I'm walking and encounter a tree, a telephone pole, or something else like that. I can't decide whether to go left or right. I have no reason to choose one side over the other, so my mind makes up certain meanings for each side.
One side will cause bad things to happen in my life (like it will take slightly longer and bring me to an intersection in time to be hit by a car) and I need to avoid that side. Or each side represents a possible choice involved in some real-life dilemma I'm experiencing. I have to choose before I reach it. Sometimes I end up slowing down before it, frantically trying to decide in time. When I was younger it was so bad I'd sometimes go one way, then feel it was the wrong choice, backtrack and go the other way, even though I knew that people were around.
Has anyone else experienced this?
