I feel like this is a bit off topic, but I do want to reply here.

This is just simply not true. In fact, I have found the opposite to be true. Many of my friends from high school were the uncool, weird, nerdy kids. I also had to be friends with very popular kids from chamber singers. What I can say is that the nerdy kids don't really care about opportunities to "rise up the social ladder." Why? They care more about being able to be themselves rather than having to mold themselves to fit in a group. To them, real friendship is more valuable.

Coming back here, and being the only one online is crazy. I wonder how long this site will be around, so many fond memories, way back when. I joined this site when I was 14, now I'm 32.

I still lurk sometimes, but typically I only ever use the Dream Journal these days. And only for dreams I consider memorable, not literally all of them like in the old days.

I hope DV gives us a bit of advance warning if they're ever about to shut down, because I don't have the last 5 years worth of entries backed up.

When I joined DV in September of 2013, it seemed pretty active back then. I'm really glad it was: I was able to meet talented dreamers, ask questions (and get answers!), and read tons of amazing archives of high quality content.

Persistent forums like DV are absolutely the best way to record and find information. Contemporary social media outside of forums is all linear stream "chat" focused, terrible for the saving and searching of information on a particular topic. It's too bad everyone's been seduced by YT, FB, discord, slack, etc. Those are great places to say "hi," but they're just not suitable for any serious exchange of information. Anything of any value disappears when it scrolls up off the screen in the chat. The discord channels do not help much, they're also flat linear discussions. What you really want is what forums give: persistent threads on a particular topic.

I really don't understand YT for learning -- videos (and podcasts) are a *terrible* way to convey information: they're slow to browse (the speed of speech, even at 2x speed), almost never have bookmarks for particular themes/topics, and are completely unsearchable.

But yeah, it seems that most of the veterans and newbies are all on reddit/discord/YT.

Yeah, you don't want information sugar coated with ideas that will not work for everyone. What about those trends out there that really unhealthy dream ideas? Like on TikTok, YT, and Tic Tok.

Discord and Reddit are the most popular online platforms among the new generation of lucid dreamers. That's probably where all the traffic is going.

What newbies who only use those platform probably don't realize is that those are both terrible platforms for learning or finding information. Live chat (discord) has its place, but not in preserving valuable information. Reddit is neither, not live chat and not a forum, so it's sort of a big nothing. Interesting reddit posts disappear within hours usually, unless they're highly upvoted (serious posts almost never get enough votes to remain visible for long).

Hey all, been a while. I see some people are posting but this community isn't as active as it used to be. Did everyone move to a new site or what? Any of my old friends around?

Hey guys. Nowadays, it seems less and less people are reading different kinds of forums. At least about 7 years ago, when I was active on this one, there would be a new thread every day and loads of responses (in lucidity theme, for example) but now there's not so much... Is it my perception or the forums are actually dying?

Merry Christmas / Season's Greetings.

I have also noticed a lot of forums have become quieter over the last year, but there are plenty of people that still prefer them and want to stick with them.

A lot of forums are quite old now and they're not very popular with young people, so if older people leave there will be fewer young people joining up to replace them. That said, if you go to the Introduction zone there are quite a lot of people signing up on here. I only just started posting here this year.

I think a lot of people are having a tough time in the world in the past two or three years. Some people always were, but the global pandemic, inflation raising the cost of living in many countries, political turmoil and the climate crisis mean a lot of people that used to post frequently on forums are now having to work longer hours, may be dealing with increased stress, illness, etc. and may not have as much time and energy to have long discussions online.

A lot of politics has been about sowing division between people and fear in them, which may cause people to withdraw more from social contact outside their close family.

I think this site is a great place for us to connect and share thoughts. When we start to pay more attention to our dreams we become more aware of our environment and our consciousness and I think it's a good way to cut through all the stress and fear for a while and can even help us to take care of one another better as well, so I have a lot of hope for this place. :)

I think the phenomenon of forums being less active is because of the outright monopoly that the social media giants hold on the internet these days. As more people flock to those social media sites, these small little corners of the internet see less and less activity.

Most of the "action" these days is on reddit and discords. Most of the veterans from here earlier are on various discords. I still think forums are the best for learning because of the content preservation and the nested categories. Live chat is very seductive, though, and younger people are really drawn to it.

I was just scrolling through forums. I joined yesterday. I took a look at the posting dates - 2008,2016, 2018. No 2022. And now I wonder,is this site ..active?

Yes, it's still active. Not as much as it used to be, and some of the forums are less active than others. But it's still an active site.

Yeah, from first glance it looks like this place is dead but, you guys need to look closer... Then again this is a giant site!! ;) For those threads with posts from posting dates, 2018 and older you can always make a new thread about the subject you desire to know about because those are old Threads. Making a new one would probably be a better idea unless it is a sticky thread. ;)

There is also the fact that some of those older members that are not around anymore may not need help with lucid dreaming anymore and they can do it on their own. You know. Sort of leaving the nest kind of thing.

BTW, life is different from seven years ago, people's lives change. A lot of people have different priorities now.

Hi there. New user. Just wanted to say, that I searched on Google "forum about dreams" ("dreams forum" gave me a lot results about programming and some real world events to buy tickets to). This site was 5th result, so my guess is, that people may overlook it too early. Compared to others, or ones found on Reddit or Quora, this is by far the best and most active. Thank you all and I am happy to have found this site

Something that I find interesting is that when I look at the stats at the bottom of the page, there is usually a large number of people online, most of whom are not members. I just checked now and it said there were 382 users online, one two of which were members. I don't know what to make of that, but I find it interesting. There seem to be a lot of visitors around here, anyway.
