When an ex told me he wanted to still be friends, I told him that if I wanted to see him again, we'd still be dating - DUH
Heh, well. It was one of those "I-went-out-with-one-of-my-guy-friends-because-I-THOUGHT-I-liked-him-but-i-really-just-wanted-a-boyfriend" things.Quote:

+ My new computer arrived today and it's so sweet.
+ The tornado sirens were blasting all over the place this evening under a green-gray sky and silent wind as everything beneath the clouds held its breath in anticipation of the coming storm.
+ I got to go chasing with my new mobile dual-bander
+ I got some nice video of swirling, rotating scud that sort of trances me out if I stare at it long enough.
+ There were people standing in their yards and outside of their places of business as the sirens wailed and the wall cloud passed directly overhead. That's Oklahoma for you - if the tornado's not on the ground and headed straight towards you, it's not a danger, it's free entertainment.
+ The hail cores with baseball sized hail missed my car this afternoon.
+ More storms are moving in in the next hour or so, and they look like they'll drop some much needed rain along with giving a pretty decent light show.
+ I can hear the thunder grumbling already.
- I still haven't finished transferring my files from my old computer to this new one
- The storm I was chasing died before I could position myself for a good view of the rotating wall cloud
- The swirling video I got was not associated with the main area of rotation, but just the interplay of some weaker up and down drafts
- Those storms that are moving in also have hail associated with them (hopefully no more than 1" diameter), so my car isn't out of the woods yet (too bad there aren't any woods around in which I could park the car).
^^ I love storms! I like to sit out on a covered porch and watch it - it's so relaxing. I especially love thunderstorms in the middle of night. Though I can't say I'd love a tornado - it'd be cool to see, but scary at the same time.
PEREGRINUS IS A STORM CHASER?!?!?
....you are now Officially my hero(ine.)

that IS awesome
I bows as well
lol. Thanks guys! That just about made my day. :D I don't think I deserve the respect, though. I'm not one of those really dedicated chasers who'll drive 200 miles a day in hopes of catching a single perfect supercell or tornado (well, at least not on my own tank of gas). I mainly just chase/spot within 40 or so miles of town and report back to the NWS what's going on when I get the chance (i.e. not working). I wasn't very effective until this year when I got my amateur radio license, but now I can hear what the storm's doing at the other chasers' locations instead of just guestimating and reading the clouds. It's soooo much easier, especially when it comes to avoiding hail cores.
Much of the plains are still in a drought, so I don't know how good the rest of the season's going to be, but in the next couple of years, if we break the no-rain cycle, does this mean that Ophelia, Oneironaut, and Burns would be game to join Howetzer, Tornado Joe and me on a DV storm chase meet-up?! You know you want to! We could rent a van or SUV (naturally not telling the rental car place what we intend to do with said vehicle) and drive it across the corn and wheat fields with the windows down and the music blastin' :D
Oh, and if you want to see just how weird storm chasers can get, this crazy guy built a tank over a Ford truck and drives it around Tornado Alley each spring attempting to drive it, quite literally, into a tornado. Admittedly, he's considered a bit of a nut job by the more scientific chasers, but I still want to see it!
