Did anyone get 2001: A space odyssey?
I really don't get that movie.
It was absurdly bizarre, but in a very, very sedate way. I enjoyed it...didn't get it, but enjoyed it.
What's not to get about it? Thing falls on monkeys, monkeys turn into humans who go into space. :P
I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but I seem to recall thinking that the chairs that they had in their spaceship were really crappy and uncomfortable looking. :?
Actually, whut she said. :)
I understood it all, ask away.
What time is it in England
I- -pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
and I yelled to the cabbie yo homes, smell ya later!
Stardust kicks serious ass. It is one fantastic movie. Claire Danes is... I have not the words. :smitten:
:P
Nah I haven't watched that movie seriously ever. Just too weird to keep me focused.
MOS, omg, I saw that movie in Russia with excellent Russian voice-overs, and omgomgomg it was awesome!!!! I really want to see the original version now though.l
Yeah, it's a freaking amazing movie. I just finished watching it, for the second time. I saw it in the theaters originally. It's weird, I saw the trailer for it, thought it looked pretty darn cool, but didn't really expect it to be too great, then got to the theater and found out it wad based on a Neil Gaiman book. Then I knew it was going to be awesome, and it did not disappoint. It's seriously one of my favorite movies now. You just don't see that kind of movie very often. It's a feel-good movie without being too cheesy, sort of a cross between Princess Bride and Enchanted. As Neil Gaiman puts it, a fairy tale for adults.
Now if Terry Pratchett would only make a movie of, say... The Colour of Magic, or Lords and Ladies.
That part of the movie is so abstract that you have to have read the book or talked to somebody who did to really understand it. The object the aliens left for the apes to touch, the monolith, affected them in such a way that they evolved into humans who eventually developed the technology to travel space and go to the aliens' realm. That was the goal of the aliens. Dave finally reaches that realm and ages rapidly to go beyond his human level. This is the final stage of the monolith influence. Dave reaches the alien level and leaves behind the human level, and that is when humanity has reached its next level. Apes, then humans, then alien creatures. Dave appears as a baby to symbolize that humanity is at the beginning of the final level of evolution.
Yeah, Lords and Ladies was the first Discworld book I ever read, followed by Small Gods I think. It's great. Another really good one, and the last one I read, is Maskerade. It's a parody of The Phantom of the Opera set in Discworld, and you really get to know Granny Weatherwax and the rest of the Lancre crowd a bit better in it.
Maskerade was good, but Nightwatch would have to be the favourite. It's an excellent book.
Although Going Postal or the Truth would both be incredible films, too.
That said, I doubt a film would ever live up to the style the books have.
I keep seeing commercials for the Mini-Pop Kids, and I just want to say that they are the ugliest bunch of kids I have ever seen.
Especially the end of the commercial where it shows them all dancing. They look like a pile of worms wriggling around!
Played it, beat it, moved on: both parts 1 and 2. I'm currently playing Tomb Raider Anniversary (Xbox 360) and enjoying it almost as much as I liked the original it's loosely based on.
Got Guitar Hero 1 and 2 for Christmas (PS2). I completely dominate every song on each (including all bonus songs) on Medium difficulty. I'm currently waiting for a lady to show up for her daughter's guitar lesson so I can school the Mom while the daughter gets schooled.
Played and beat Bioshock (Xbox 360) last month. So-so game, great graphics.
Possibly opening and managing a new repair shop soon. Already have my first employee and getting ready to buy out the parts and equipment stock from another shop that just closed down. I'm about to be much more busy than I already am. Lord, I hope things work out... It's scary and exciting at the same time.
I'm so freakin' busy at work - gotta' go now. I hope every one here is doing well.
I think calculus is overrated... And very-very sigma abusive.
Not sure if I've read Nightwatch yet, actually. Going Postal and The Truth are great, though. One that would make a cool movie, if not the most practical one, would be Thief of Time. I still need to get a copy of the Hogfather movie/miniseries, too. And I just this morning discovered that there was an animated version of Soul Music made, with Christopher Lee voicing Death! Must have!
