how do i convert my dvd to ipod format and put it on the ipod?
do i use a decrypter and then convert the file to ipod format?
i downloaded a converter, and a decrypter, tried it, and it didn't work...
do i decrypt the dvd? can Nero do it?
plz explain...

Handbrake is the standard. They ported it to both Windows and Linux. Just select the preset for the right iPod and hit rip.
Well, thought this might be useful to people, so here's a little write-up
Ipod's use mpeg-4 AVC for video
(Advanced Video Codec - also known as H.264)
and mpeg-4 AAC for audio
(Advanced Audio Codec)
You may want to research your iPod's resolution
as there's little point bunging on a film with full DVD resolution if your iPod only has a 320x240 screen
Find out what resolution your screen is, and use this resolution when converting the DVD's Vob-chain to MPEG-4
I believe ipod's can also read MPEG-2's as well
and you may want to use this instead
MPEG-2 is less processor intensive (both audio & video), so you may save battery life (at the expense of file size) using MPEG-2 over MPEG-4
but I have no idea, off hand, what the difference in battery life would be

That's where you download Handbrake. I like it because you don't have to worry about resolution, it has presets. iPods can't read MPEG2, MP4 and H.264 only. Better compression is more important that battery life because the iPod hard drives are so small.
Open Handbrake, it automatically asks you to select a source. Click on the DVD. In the Presets select iPod [Classic, Touch...] Press Start, it couldn't be easier. You can adjust all of the functions if you want higher quality or such.
