How do i keep my throat from feeling tight when attempting WILD

I have repeatedly come close to achieving WILD on multiple occasions; whenever i come close i experience all the things i can handle, such as numbness, imagery in the eyes, sounds etc. But then my throat gets heavy and if I'm on my back it prevents me breathing at all or makes it so hard that i can't ignore it (and so come out of my WIlding attempt) if i am in an i deal position i.e. pillow behind my back, a second pillow on top of one of my shoulders and then i twist my head back as far as i can so that my throat can't close no matter how relaxed it is.

But even when i try this is still have this really uncomfortable feeling in my throat of heaviness that leads/ forces me to swallow and by that point i usually give up and go to sleep normally. Which is on my side but no matter what i do if I'm on my side i can't achieve lucidity...i think because its too comfortable.

So how do you recommend i deal with the heavy throat feeling and salivation thing or ignore it thx

I would say, same way as when you going to sleep normally.

It's a common thing - when people lay down to WILD, they start really paying attention to their physical body and they are waiting for something to happen.

Waiting for lights, sensations, hallucinations, any signs of someting happening. Anticipating an itch or urge to move or swallow, as they read about it and they are affraid of when it comes, because they "know" it will ruin their attempt. When that something happens, it get's them excited and they abort thinking they messed up. Or, nothing happens, and they abort, again thinking they have failed.

WILDing is really not different from going to sleep normally. There is no need to have any problems with throat aching, or swallowing, or itching... Same way, as these are never a problem when we go to sleep normally. That's because then we are not examining our bodies, but we are just looking forward to sleep. And we swallow, and change position and scratch without a second thought, not even realizing we doing it and we still fall asleep, sometimes even just seconds after doing that.

Of course, it's easier to fall asleep if you don't fidget. But if trying to not move, scratch, swallow is causing distress, it's better to get rid of it and continue WILDing.

Most of the work for a WILD is done before the attempt in form of mental preparation. That includes reading a DILD tutorial and actually practicing awareness, RCs and mantras in efforts to get a DILD. After a few DILD, you can attempt a WILD. It's ok to read a WILD when we are just trying to get a DILD.

To recap:
- WILD in comfortable position
- don't worry about physical sensations
- scratch, move, swallow if needed

- start with DILD

WILD and DILD for beginners

Indeed. Anything touching your exposed body may become a distraction later on. I move my hair out of my face, make sure my blanket has no wrinkles where my hands are resting on them, and pretty much anything that you can feel when you starting and has a potential to magnify and distract later on. Make sure you are comfortable.

But again, directing our attention from physical body is the way to go. Since we want to leave it behind and transfer our awareness into dream body.

if your having trouble breathing then take deep breathes, like the way you breathe when your trying to pretend your sleeping. it also helps if you focus on your deep breathing rather then your body.

The less I focus on my physical body the easier it is to sleep or WILD/DEILD. Even if I have to move, scratch, readjust, swallow, smack someone :P I just keep my mindset the same and I can keep falling asleep. None of these things will prevent you from WILDing any more than they will prevent you from sleeping. I would recommend learning some meditation in order to better WILD. :)
