Need a little help with WILDing

Hello Dreamviews,

I've been trying all kinds of methods for lucid dreaming induction, including MILD, DILD through ADA, and WILD. The problem is, I've never ever been succesful at WILDing so far. Even when I got really close to achieving a WILD once, my dad called and ruined everything :(.

So what basically goes wrong, excuse me but this'll sound very silly, is that whenever my body starts undergoing sleep paralysis I suddenly get a strong twitch in my crotch and my body instantly jumps back awake after that. I've done many things to try and solve this like try wearing clothes while doing so or try another position to WILD or even stuff a pillow between my legs but nothing seems to work.

Has any of you experienced this? Do you have any suggestions or advice?

You need to focus your attention on something else rather than your body. When you start undergoing sleep paralysis, focus on your visuals. If you see something, even a dot, focus on that. This will keep you from paying attention to outside stuff like your physical body and helps you to be stabilize the dreaming experience.

But am I not supposed to keep my eyes closed? or did I miss something here?

Also I always try this while lying on my right side (facing a wall) since this is usually the most comfortable position for me.

Your eyes will be closed at all times, for sure. But imagery will start to appear.

As for the position you're sleeping, i think that's ok. I get my WILD in my 2nd comfortable position. If i sleep in an uncomfortable position, i will not get a WILD. If i sleep in the most comfortable, i will sleep through WILD and miss it. So i do it on my 2nd comfortable position, which is on my side also.

Uh.. I think I suck a lot more at this than I at first thought because I don't recall ever reaching a stage where imagery appeared lol. That or I don't remember ever getting there.

So technically, I don't even get to the stage where I would be able to focus on something else than my physical form. On a side note, I might try my other side then and see if that works better. I'll post here as soon as I've tried it.

I thank you for your efforts, but I'm still kind of boned on what to do. Perhaps WILDs just weren't meant for me.
Tonight I'll try and see how it goes if I try my left side but I'm not too confident in it at the moment.

It's OK to take a break from WILDs. I have had practically no success with classical WILD as well. I see you have had some good number of LDs, are they all DILDs? Any DEILDs? I had my first DEILD a few days ago and it showed me a lot of how the dream transition feels. I feel a lot more confident now about classical WILD (in fact this morning I felt like I almost WILDed -- I noticed dream image forming, very similar to how the DEILD dream image formed, but this morning they all faded when I turned attention to them).

First and foremost with WILD are the basics: you need to fall asleep. It sounds like you're not getting close to falling asleep, so I'd focus more on relaxation for now, while trying to maintain a tiny pearl of awareness embedded in some mental anchor.

And more subtley, "trying" usually doesn't work. You need to set your mind for what you want to do, and then just let it happen. Just as "trying" to sleep frequently results in insomnia, "trying" to WILD results in no WILD... relax, while repeating a light mantra or some other mental anchor to hang a bit of awareness.

Actually as far as I remember (because as you can see I started working on lucid dreaming 2 years ago) all of my dreams were DILDS. My lucid dreams usually started by me suddenly noticing the familiar feeling of dreaming. Two nights ago I had a lucid dream in which I was in an office building and I asked an employee where I could find a tap for water and he gave me some random directions but I exited the building thinking "Might as well go outside and create my own because I'm dreaming". Just like that I noticed I was dreaming, and it's been like that for almost all of them.

Focusing more on relaxing sounds like a really good point actually, I think I might've been focusing waaaay to much on staying still and being excited about WILDing. I think I read somewhere on this forum about someone using one of Jody Whiteley's recordings to listen to while WILDing, which is something I might try as well since it'll definitely help me relax a lot more.

It's good to be comfortable but scientifically speaking you have a 60% increased chance of sleep paralysis when lying on your back

Also if you are not seeing anything then you haven't reached a stage where hypnagogic images occur. I would suggest that instead of being overly excited about achieving a W.I.L.D just try to relax and calmly repeat your intent for it to happen to yourself. Sometimes if you focus too much on being still it will increase the spontaneous body movements. It's like pain the more attention you direct towards your discomfort or impulses to move the more likely you will. Even if you don't see any images you just need to distract your mind and keep your focus off of the urges. It's not supposed to be easy, your body is testing to see if you are asleep and if any twitching like you describe happens by itself then it's natural, just keep thinking about something else. One other thing that might help you is to wake up in your longest R.E.M stage which is approximately 4-5 hours after falling asleep and then attempting this, your body should then go into sleep paralysis within about 20 minutes in which you can go directly into a dream state if you manage to stay conscious.

But the twitch I experience then is so strong i'll just jump back awake. So far I've figured out I just need to keep my mind off and focus on "falling asleep", but especially on my back the chance of such twitches happening is just so much higher.
Also I mostly just attempt WILD whenever I wake up during the night, that may be 4 or 5 or 6 hours after I fall asleep, it's completely random.

To WILD you need to fall asleep, if you can't fall asleep on your back then avoid that position....

I would try the SSILD technique, it's very similar and can lead into a WILD, even though it's technically for DILD. It helps a lot with distracting your mind. I was having almost the same problem, started the SSILD technique and it's becoming much easier to get to the stage I start feeling vibrations and getting HH. read this post-http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...eam-ssild.html

This has helped me a lot with relaxing and letting the SP happen and drifting off naturally. While it's not technically a WILD it can lead to one if the timing is right. The way I look at it is it doubles the chances for me, if the timing is right I can have a WILD but if not this will help me greatly with achieving a DILD. I also take a couple supplements for helping the vividness and clarity of my dreams which also helps the chances of a LD, B6 and 5-HTP, sometimes Melatonin for REM rebound.

Thanks m8, I'll have a go at that next then :D. At the moment I'm just trying a whole bunch of techniques out after my long break of lucid dreaming but I wanted to try and see if I could pull off a WILD sometime. I haven't yet looked into SSILD, but it sounds pretty interesting.

EDIT: I just had a read through the thread you linked and that sounds really awesome! I can't wait to try that out.

So you say you enter sleep paralysis - what exactly do you mean by that?

I tried another classical WILD the other day. I started out fairly awake, relaxation took a loooooong time. I started noticing some body sensations (familiar ones for me: ragged breathing, twitching eyes, buzzing sensation in body), but I must have been (again) too alerted by this. I had a feeling that at that stage I really needed to completely "let go" mentally and sink towards unconsciousness. That may be the way for me, I'll try that next time.

When I said I was undergoing sleep paralysis, I meant that my body starts getting soft twitches in random places. The twitches gradually get a bit stronger but not that much, and after that happens for a while, I jump back alive as described in the original post. I do hope I didn't incorrectly assume that was sleep paralysis but to me it seemed like it was.
