      How i do my WILD

I guess i tried to do WILD some time ago but it was too much work for me, so i quit. I tried the steps but it made me loose my sleep sometimes. A couple of months ago, i made a great and successful WILD unintentionally. After that, i've been doing some great WILDs using the same technique. My WILD is pretty simple. Here's how it works for me:

I can do my WILDs only if i have a lot of sleep hours (mainly at weekends) and it works best at the end (after i slept about 7-8 hours).
I go to sleep normally and i always wake up naturally after some 5 hours of sleep. Maybe had some non-lucid dreams, but it doesn't matter. Sometimes i do a WBTB, sometimes i don't. But what i always do is change to my 2nd most relaxing sleep position. I have some positions that i'm most comfortable and some are not. If i sleep in my most comfortable position (in my belly) i will fall aslepp faster and i will miss the WILD. If i sleep in my less comfortable position (on my back) it will get harder to fall asleep if not loose my sleep at all. So, i put myself in my 2nd most relaxing position, which is on my side. And then, i just wait. I don't MILD or focus on thoughts... no. I just empty my mind and go with the flow. If some thoughts appear, i just let it wander my mind. After some time (it could take an hour) i start to feel my body vibrating and I even can feel my rapid eye movement. Then some images start to appear. I just lay there, still, focus on the images and then i enter the dream.

So, to make this story short, what i do is just put myself in a position that is not the most or the least comfortable and just lay there thinking of nothing. I had around 6 good WILDs until now.

Hey DreamHighlander, that's sort of the technique I use, except that on my back I can't get to sleep, or even close to WILD, but on my side I tend to just go to sleep. I did have some early success on my side. How do you just "go with the flow" but not go to sleep?
For me, if I try to just stay awake enough I seem to "bounce" out of the dream almost as soon as I start. I might have just 1/2 a second or one second of a fully formed scene, which then instantly evaporates, I suspect as my waking consciousness takes over. With me it seems to be a delicate balance that I can't seem to master.
Maybe I'm just not sleeping enough? I do struggle to get 8 hours sleep and then some time to WILD - too much family noise around me!

That's a good question. I don't have a good answer for that. I just can do it. I'm just lying on my bed, thinking of nothing, waiting for something to happen, and then my body goes to sleep but not my mind. Because i feel my body extremely relaxed (it goes to sleep) but i'm always aware of that. Imagery and sounds happen but i'm always aware. It's like i have no control over that. Thinking of that, i want to have no control (hence the "go with the flow").
I don't know if i explain it well. It's kinda hard to.

I get what you mean. I've had glimpses of that. It's almost like I'm aware, the same as being awake, but then I sort of drift and get a dream scene, but then almost immediately it's like I concentrate too hard on it and it disappears.
I've tried to observe impassively, but it's really hard.
The few WILDs I have had I've had to wait over an hour to get a very brief lucid. It's like waking up after a dream resets my REM cycle clock and I have to wait for the next one to come round to have a chance at doing it.

I've only once been able to DILD in the middle of a dream, when I did the nose-pinch RC, but again I woke up very soon after just a few seconds.
I've tried to DEILD, but I seem to just wake and have to do a WBTB / WILD.

I need to try a different approach I think.

Im new at lucid dreaming and I was wondering how to clear my mind like you said. When I try to my mind keeps thinking about not thinking. I dont know if thta makes sense. I could also use any other tips you might have for a beginner. Thanks

Maybe that's the problem. You are thinking about not thinking, so you're forcing yourself to think of something. Don't try to think of it. It's very hard to think about nothing. I can't do that either. I just don't force my mind to think of things in particular. Just let it go. A lot of thoughts might come to your mind and that's normal. The key is having that thoughts appear without you thinking of it. I don't know if i'm explaining well, but for example: when i'm laying in my bed, i don't think of things in particular, but some thoughts pop up my into mind: a conversation with a friend, me walking down the street that morning, me riding a car... I did not put my mind to think of ir. It just popped out. If you're lucky, one of those thoughts might be the one starting a dream.
