Think of all the awesome things you'll get to do once you get into the dream. Unless that would be too distracting for you to fall asleep...
Learn to meditate.
Well... I count, because otherwise I might fall asleep while I'm relaxing my body...
Otherwise, I have to agree with bushi... the first part of a WILD is much like a meditation :)
As you're falling into sleep paralysis, you should start experiencing hypnogogic hallucinations anyways, which are pretty entertaining :D
That's the issue. I never seem to get HI. I'll just lay there in boredom until I begin feeling heavy, then see circles of dark blue moving inwards, maybe smaller green circles. That's it, though. Nothing really happens.
You could try to manipulate the circles, or to get more HH. I've found that sometimes when I wake up in the middle of the night I can induce HH with little/no effort, but I haven't figured out how to get to that state at will.
what I do is try to focus on extending my closed eye vision, and I can feel a shift when it starts to work. it's basically like a gear shift from two-dimensional vision to three-dimensional vision. that usually conjures up some imagery.
perhaps you could try not viewing it as being bored but rather pleasantly distancing yourself from the confines of reality. as time and space melt away you can soak up the warm void like a lizard on a rock fully at peace with itself.
I'm pretty much talking meditation here but just learn to fully love the present moment...it's a well deserved vacation from the physical world.
nice lizard analogy! I loved it.
Oh Mr. Ari, try using a mantra in a chain fashion like "mind awake/body asleep" eventually you will slip into distraction/silence/stillness and here is where you ask your self if you think your sleep or not and why. Then if you aren't in dream time or SP then continue.
This occupies your mind and gets you there lightening quick. BTW I have circles similar to what you describe but they look like rings of slowly rotating fire. You might reconsider what you call HI. By some peoples' definition it might not be but this does mean physiologically or medically that you are producing stronger alpha waves which indicates you are moving towards sleep or relaxation. Keep it up
Thanks for the tips, everyone! Ah, and @Hijo de la Luna, it's Ms. Ari, but really I prefer just Ari, haha.
Oh, whoops! Sorry about the gender confusion. I am really not formal I like to dice things up from time to time. but ok Ari it is =0)
