Bonsai Tree - Please help me identify it...

      Hey
I hope this qualifies to be in 'artists corner' - I couldn't see
      anywhere else suitable.
Anyway, I received a bonsai tree from my sister for my birthday.
Ever since I got it last week I've been wondering what species it is -
it was bought from a local garden centre here in England so I guessed it
must be a common species, only I can't find a tree that looks similar on all
      the sites I visited.

Here are pictures: (click on thumbnail for a better look)

It would be really helpful if someone could help identify it, then I'd
know the exact conditions to keep it in etc (my last one died within 2 years
so you can see why I worry)

      Thank you

I have the very same issue!
Mine to was from a garden center too.
With further research, I have found that mine was not a "true" bonsai tree.
A real bonsai tree is rather expensive, but worth it.

If you can not readily find the species, most likely you have a variation of a house plant.

I will look in by bonsai book that has all the variations and species. See If I can identify yours.

It certainly looks like a true Bonsai.
      Does it bear fruit?

I have found a tree with similar leaves called a dwarf kumquat. Looking into that I can only find fruit bearing dwarfs of that nature.

You're right, Howie. The leaves are very similar. Thanks for looking
I will check out as many pages on Kumquats now, I think I'll go back
to the garden centre too - see if I can talk to someone.

I'm not sure it will bear fruit next year, as I'm in the UK. What do you think?

(My bonsai that died spring of this year was a common Chinese Elm. Still
trying to work out where I went wrong )

      Thanks again.

I should start doing this some day, I love the idea of mini trees
My mom is an educated garden person, so I can ask her for help.
