Tell me, am I and idiot?

Well, it all started it out a few years ago...I was around seven or eight years old and wrote a book about clowns. I took it to school and my friends really liked it.

Okay, skip a few years to when I was 11. I suddenly got the urge to write again. I rapped my head open for ideas, and I eventually came up with one. It was about the Philosophers stone. I eventually gave up on the idea and came up with a new one: dreams. The idea came to me because of my brother, he began to read about dreams, and because I've been known to copy him, I began to, too.

I have a gigantic plot that I've told my sister, she told me it was a great idea and that I better start writing.

But two things hold me back. One is that thought that it seems vaguely familiar to another story about ghosts. And two is the fact that I don't think I'm a good enough writer. So I came here to try to speed up my dreaming process. I'm trying to ave a lucid so I can get inspiration from my lucids or a guide.

DO you think this is just stupid of me for wasting time? (by the way, I also want ot be a really young write )

Well shellyboof bishop isn't going to let you over-egg this pudding!

      The answer is yes.

      Reasons:

      1. This is the wrong forum for the thread.

      2. Thread title is unrelated.

      Moved to Artist's Corner.

I don't think you're wrong for following your passion. So many people think that they're poor writers, but the best way to improve is to just write. Get your thoughts down on paper and if it doesn't look good at first, look for ways to make it sound better. Read more books and take a look at the different styles that various authors have. Think about the kind of story you're writing and figure out what kind of tone you should take with it. Is it a playful tone? dramatic? sophisticated? dark?

The main goal is to be able to convey what you picture in your mind to someone else. They have to be able to feel the emotions you want them to feel, which takes a lot of thought as to how your audience will react to your work. You can always ask people for their reaction when they read something. Just ask someone who's going to give you more than just an "It's good..." answer.

Most authors' writing is influenced by the styles of other authors. If you're worried about sounding too much like another book/movie/etc., figure out what is unique about your book and focus more on those areas. Almost nothing is 100% original any more, so don't be too worried about that. Enjoy the process and don't be afraid to ask for help along the way.

It takes strong dedication to be a writer, and extreme patience. It's good to remember that good writing is never (re)written only a couple of times, but goes through many stages, many forms of "evoulution".

      I didn't say I was twelve? Didn't I say I to go up a few more years?

It kind of takes guts to show people things you've written because even if it is good, it just seems stupid. If you really don't think you're that good then maybe take some creative writing classes. You mentioned you were young... so you're still in school I'm guessing? Take it as an elective
