Help with painting

This is a day's work on Alain Grimsbane my Original Character Vampyre. I know the lips need work, noticed that after some sleep but what about other stuff? I am concerned about his hair also especially the part. Including references. Anyone know of fancy old fashioned vest reference images? He is not done yet. I guess that is it, thanks for any help. :-)

Here's what it looks like now. Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it. If anyone cares I've changed the one side of his face to a more yellow ochre based color to balance the pinks because I thought his face was getting too warm. The picture is a bit distored from the angle I was sitting while photographing it. For some crazy reason, I think I painted his lips backwards? Whatever. I guess if this looked like something you'd put on a refrigerator it would get all sorts of gushing responses. Am I in France? :-)

Awesomely done!! You are very talented!! I think I prefer the "warmer tones" of the first pic, but the lips were too lopsided. Actually, I placed the pictures side by side and I can't tell a difference in the tones, but there's a "whitish" blip on the left side of his mouth in the second picture that I don't care for... I like the crease from the first one. I'd frame it and hang it up. You did an excellent job!

The whitish blip was just where I had painted out some stuff around his mouth not the finished area. Except for the lips the face is now done and I am finishing up the rest of the piece. I think he looks too feminine but I'll do better next time. If I had a wacom tablet I'd just alter the photographs of Craig Parker/Haldir and not worry about having to paint him. That is all. :-)

Actually, I think Alain is getting a bit too pretty and feminine. I've been looking at the painting so long I am not sure what I am viewing but I get the impression he is too fem and I don't like that. I might finish him or I might just let this painting be one of those of many that linger in limbo-land. I have been 'painting' on top of the photograph of Parker/Haldir to try to keep his boy face what do you think of this? Keep in mind it is not finished and likely won't be for some time. I just wanted some illustrations for my story so that I could better visualize what he looked like and such. Using Paint Shop Pro 6 and a mouse. I don't have any fancy brushes or anything like that. Ha. I was just thinking about LOTR when I happened to click on this thread. I think the second to last pic you've posted thus far is the best (the one where there are three pics together). But his face looks pudgy to me... In my opinion the jawline would look better if it were more angular. But then again if it's based off Haldir then maybe that's what you're going for..

I did try to put some shadow to indicate jawline put haven't uploaded it. Still looks too girly. :-)

What is wrong with DV? Second try at post. Not finishing it because it is too girly and I am thinking that because no one had anything to say about it, it was a bad painting and I am not wasting more time on it. No, it is not Lestat.

Please don't take a lack of responses here as a serious indicator as to whether it's good or not. It's very good! This particular area of the Lounge tends to have less traffic and less participation though. He is a bit girly and I thought of Elves when I first saw him. Elves tend to have high agility and great intelligence but they don't usually make the best warriors. It all depends on what you're after.

Yeah, don't insult our fave elves. Even if Haldir was short and had to wear Disco platform shoes..wait, I shouldn't have said that :-) Seriously, these are Lord Of The Rings elves not anime. Thanks for the reply. Every once in a while I just need some help and it was disapointing that I didn't get much. That's cool though, I'll just alter up the photographs. I really only wanted to be able to better imagine Alain in my head when writing. :-)
