Tell me about learning Korean

First of all, I want to self study it through the internet (or try atleast), simply because for as far I've googled for Korean lessons in my area I found out it was about 100km from where I live. And that is way too distant. How many cases does Korean have? Do you think it will be possible? Is it hard to speak? Like Russian is? Are Koreans tolerable of me failing to speak Korean when I try? So far I can read Hangul...
