Well, my sister has always wanted to go to Ireland, and it's been the second place I've wanted to visit on my list (next to Russia). Anyway, we were thinking about going there in October, so anyone who's been there or lived there, what would you recommend doing? Is there anywhere you would recommend spending the night or eating? Neither of us have traveled internationally so I'd want to have a good idea of what to expect while there

Also, I'd like to try and see if I could visit Croatia. I know some people that will be over there. Any suggestions on that? (And I know someone *feels bad for not remembering* lives there.)

      Thanks!

Ireland is awesome. You will love it there. I spent about a week there roughly 1.5 years ago, and my wife lived there for about 6 months a few years before that. if you're going the cheap route, as I did, you will probably want to stay in hostels. I stayed in two different hostels in Dublin, Avalon House and Ashfield House. I don't specifically remember which was which, since it's been a while, but I do remember that they were both pretty decent. Nice locations, nice buildings, etc.

If you're going to venture outside of Dublin, I would recommend Galway, which is supposed to be the "most Irish" of all the Irish cities. It's on the west coast, about a 3 (?) hour train ride from Dublin. If you do go to Galway, make sure to visit the King's Head Pub. Very interesting history to that place. Also, the King's Head had the best damn sandwich and soup I've ever had in my life.

The one thing I regret not being able to do while in Ireland (there just wasn't enough time) was touring the Guinness brewery or the Jameson distillery. But I did drink plenty of both!

I live here in Ireland, I actually recommend staying away from Dublin, it's where I live, it's pretty much just a stereotypical city. If you want to see the beautiful green Ireland or hear the Irish speakers I recommend going to somewhere in Galway, lovely county! There's nothing really good in Ireland to be honest.
      Lord of the Rings quotes:

"Behold, I am not Gandalf the Grey, whom you betrayed. I am Gandalf the White, who has returned from death. You have no colour now, and I cast you from the order and from the Council." - Gandalf to Saruman, The Two Towers

"Men of Gondor and Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails... when we forsake our friends, and break all bonds of fellowship... but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when all hope comes crashing down, but it is NOT this day! This day, we fight! For all that you hold dear, stand, Men of the West! - Aragorn

"Far off yet is his doom, and not by the hand of man will he fall." - Glorfindel

"in Rivendell there live still some of his chief foes: the Elven-wise, lords of the Eldar from beyond the furthest seas. They do not fear the Ringwraiths, for those who have dwelt in the Blessed Realm live at once in both worlds, and against both the Seen and the Unseen they have great power." - Gandalf

I have a friend that spends most of the summer holidays in a cottage in Ireland. He says it rains. A lot.

Believe it or not, even though I have an Irish name, I don't have any Irish blood in my veins, at all.

Although, Ireland does have the fourth best worldwide HDI (Human Development Index).*

I live in the very far south west corner of Ireland here:

I wasn't born in Ireland, my mothers family have links here, so I moved back 16 years ago to get away from England, which is just too overcrowded and controlled. I agree with Rory, Guinness is horrid, give me a good brandy any day.
I'd recommend West Cork. I now live in the place of my dreams This is the view from my window.

Please just understand that you won't often find a view like that ^^
