Smile The best and/or worse advice you've ever received

I've been thinking about this lately and here's my contribution from my mom of some of the best advice that I've ever received:

      1) Never date/marry a man who is "prettier" than you are.

      2) Never put anything in writing that the whole world can't read.

I've since added my own amendment to # 2 to include:
Anything that might do your reputation irreparable harm if it were to be broadcasted on the news should never be done nor spoken.

So.. does anyone else have any pearls of wisdom that they'd care to share!
      .

An odd one that has always stuck with me that was passed to me by my grandmother.

Always be the tie-er, not the tie-ee.
      (her speaking about bondage... hahahaha)
I'm not sure exactly where that advice fits, best or worst.

Something i just passed on to someone today, something my grandmother told me when I was very young.

'You can never ask too many questions'.

I bet my mother and aunts and uncles disagreed with that when I was 6 and incredibly inquisitive.

I was the same way. I remember asking questions like "how does skin stay on" and "how did people find out that cows were edible".:p

I was exactly like that. Still am sometimes.

I think I all I did was ask questions from between the ages of 6 right up until I was 9 or 10, then my mother started taking me to the library so I could sign out loads of books to answer the questions she couldn't.

Good advice from my Dad: You will never regret saving money. You're never going to look in your wallet and say, "I wish I would have already spent that!"

"Don't stick your fingers in there."

Awesome advice. Still stays with me today.

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.

Best advice: "you CANT do that"... best motivator in the freakin world for me

      Worst advice:
      -back in 1996
Phone company guy: "Yeah, just plug the phone cord into your computer and click connect"

      :p

      Best Advice
      - Be yourself and don't follow the crowd
      - Do things in moderation and you get better results

      Worst Advice
      - Always tell the truth - Though telling the truth is normally the best you will find that in alot of situations it can be a bad idea.

I can't think of any more bad advice i've been given but i'm sure i'll think of something to add to the list.

Some of the best advice I've had given to me was by my father, "Always carry a pocketknife."

Advice my grandfather gave to my uncle, who relayed it: "Never pull something in a fight you aren't prepared to have shoved up your ass."

Here's one I guarantee you've never heard, courtesy of my late (other) uncle. It was one of his favorite sayings. "You've got to hold your mouth right."

Some of the best advice I've ever heard. Also, "If you don't leave, you can't come back." While it may sound nonsensical, it makes a weird kind of sense, if you really think about it.

Well, for instance, if I was trying too hard at something, and failed, he'd say, "You just weren't holding your mouth right. You've got to hold your mouth right." He used to say it all the time teaching me how to skip rocks.

It makes more sense in person...

      Also:

Incidentally, I was exactly the same. Only my mother took me to the library from the age of about . . . actually, I can't remember a time when I didn't go to the library. I also got a great set of Encyclopedia Britannica when I was around seven-ish. She'd usually just say, "Go look it up in the encyclopedia/dictionary." and I would. Or I already had, and the answer wasn't there...
