      Tell me about Nashville

So, I have the chance to possibly go to Nashville Tennessee soon and I know absolutely nothing about the place.

Anyone have any advice on where to hang out in Nashville aside from the obvious tourist traps?

      Anyone?

      No one?
That means I'll have to hang out with my sister and her boyfriend the entire time and watch football.

When I dream, theres always a
little girl playing in the dirt, that
turns to me and says "Why are
you here? .... Are you blind like
      me?"

      What I've found
      What I've known
Never shined to me what I've shown
      Never be
      Never free
I wish to see what might have been...

My father has been to Nashville once, he said it was pretty boring (in fact, he said it reminded him of Saskatchewan ). Anyways, there must be some good watering holes over there, hope you're into country music too...

Thanks for responding. I was getting tired of hearing the crickets chirpping merrily away in this thread.

Actually, I don't like football or country music and I was hoping there would be some good photo ops down there. Maybe I can stalk some country singer and get some tabloid worthy photos of them?

One thing I will do if I go, is visit the Jack Daniels Distillery. I used to suck that stuff back like it was going out of style.

Too bad you won't be coming down into Georgia, Vex. This Vexes me.

Why don't you check out waterfalls and walking trails in the area? Maybe ask your sister, she would know more than I.

I live in a state that borders Tennessee, and I have only seen Nashville when driving through it and once when I went to Opryland and spent the night. Unfortunately, Opryland no longer exists, so I can't tell you that much about Nashville. It is of course the "country music capital". Major recording studios are there, and The Grand Ole Opry, which is a legendary country concert place where all of the big country music legends have played, is in Nashville. One other thing I know is that Nashville is not as country music oriented as it might appear from the media. The only time you see anything about Nashville in the media is when it has something to do with country music, but Nashville is much more or a regular city than that. It seemed to me like just another beautiful big city in the American South, but people who have lived there tell me that it is much cleaner and less crime-ridden than cities like New Orleans, Memphis, and Atlanta. The morning I left, my family went to some cool looking lake and played on a rope swing. I haven't been to Nashville since 1983 even though I am just a few hours down the Natchez Trace from it, so that's about all I can tell you.

Sorry MoS, I'll be hitching a ride the Nahsville so I can't just up and go where ever I want. I'd be afraid to visit you and all your sharp and shiney knives anyway.
My sister doesn't know Nashville either. She's just going to watch a football game as far as I know. She invited me to be the trip photographer I'm guessing, but I want to sneak off on my own and take loads of photos. Waterfalls and nature trails are just my thing.

I was hoping it wasn't as country music orieneted as it's made out to be. That's good news. It's nice to know it's clean there too. I do appreciate a place that isn't too littered up. Thanks for that, Universal Mind.

Thanks guys, You just tipped me back into 'I want to go' category.

Aw, no need to be afraid of lil' ol' me!

I did an admittedly quick Google search, and it seems there are several state parks in the area. Just some search results. A bit more searching yielded a few specific trails and a pretty cool looking waterfall or two: Hikes and trail near Nashville.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip! I look forward to seeing some pictures of waterfalls and such, if you wouldn't mind posting some.

      Thanks, Man of Steel.
And i wasn't really afraid of you, I actually like sharp shiney stuff.

I was doing a bunch of internet searches too and couldn't find anything I really wanted to do down there. I thought too that perhaps someone here was familiar and could give me a heads up on what to do and what to avoid down there. I never thought to try the nature side of Nashville. I think I'll investigate that further.

      Thanks again.

Nashville is twinned with Belfast in one of the most mismatched city-twinning exercises ever.

I couldn't find a video of a drive through Nashville during the day, but here is a video of a midnight ride.
