I just found this problem that I'm confused on....

I want to find the volume of something 27.0 cm long(3 significant fig) 14.55 wide(4 sg fg) and 9.3 cm high(2 sg fg)

I'm supposed to express the answer in the correct number of significant figures. Isn't there a rule you can only express to the least number of sg fgs? Like for here it would be two.... (for 9.3)

So the answer would be 3653.50(dropping the extra 5)

      Did I do that right?
No, because 3653.50 has 6 significant figures in it. The correct answer is 3700.

Assuming this thing is a rectangular box...

I don't know if this is how you are supposed to do it but here we are taught that if adding and subtracting then you round to the least number of decimal values and if multiplying and dividing use sig figs, so Spart is correct.

Also just some general tips, chem usually builds on itself so you may find answers elsewhere in the test. For example if one question asks for the formula of acetic acid and you can't remember it, it could be used in a later problem on the test so just keep on the lookout for that kind of thing. Also if you can't get one in a section, do the rest of the section and then come back and see if you can remember how to do it now that you did some others like it. If you wait until the very end to go back and do them all your mind will not be as focused on solving that kind. Also make it obvious if you skip any or have trouble on one such as writing a big question mark. Later on if you think of something it will be pretty simple to find that problem again.

As for cramming, I do it for every test and I have a good memory and I don't get frustrated trying to memorize alot, but you may not want to study obsessively before it to the point where you are just confusing yourself and you aren't able to think. Also during the test, just relax and make sure you read what you are doing. Don't spend too much time on a hard problem or section, you can come back later when there is time left. If you try it first and get nowhere, you may run short on time later and panic and rush.

Also as it's time to take the exam, tell yourself that you know what you do and you don't know what you don't so just give it your best effort and I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck

LMAO and when you see your teacher in the hallway start talking about how everyone thought it was hard and that it needs a big curve. My chem teacher always curved tests like 15%. I didn't get under 100% on any test all year and I got like a 116% on the final (with the curve and some extra credit).
