      Tell me about Birdsong

I'm just starting to study Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes.

Anyone read it or think it's any good? Also does anyone know any world war one novels? Or recommend any for me to study.

Can we make this thread go into senseless banter now?

Well, well. I'm in the middle of A level English
studying Birdsong. It is a very good book, full
      of drama.
Another good WWI novel is 'Regeneration' by Pat
Barker. It is nowhere near as dramatic but deals
with the interesting psychological impact that the
war had upon men on the front line.

      So there we go!

You're doing the same as me! I also need another book to compare it to, my teacher said regenerations or some other book that escapes me. Is Birdsong really that graphic? You know what I mean

      Yes it is!
Our English teacher is obsessed with the link
between sex and death so we spent a long time
on those parts. (I very much hope you were talking
about the graphic sex, otherwise I'll crawl away in
      embarassment )

Apparently, the play 'Journey's End' is a very useful WWI
text, although we're only studying it for the scary synoptic
      exam, not coursework.

Yeah I was talking about all the sex

Also, Journey's end was the one I was thinking of! It's for the LTA6 exam, I was going to use Birdsong and Regeneration or Journeny's End but weren't sure which. Got any suggestions?

Probably best to read both and pick bits out
      where it's appropriate.
Journey's End only takes about a day to read so
      not too much work
