      Prepared interviews/responses?

Usually when I see important people who answer in interviews or who are publically speaking the rarely say umm... or any filler words. How do these people do this?

Do they know these questions before hand and reherse their answers? Or are they socially capable enough to generate these complex responses on the fly, even when challenge with random questions from the audience?

It's a bit of both. Saying "umm" is a bad public speaking practice, and something that's covered in anything meant to help you get better at public speaking. Presumably, those guys are pretty good at that stuff and will prefer to have a silent pause, rather than an "um".

That said, I bet you they are often given the questions, or at least, general topics, in advance. Otherwise, there would be a lot more "not everyone has maps of the Iraq" out there

lmao most people don;t, you ever watched BBC news? " urrr, urrrr urrrrm president...Bush.. went to urm.. Iran to meet....delegates on the nuclear issue, he staying at urm. ( some Iranian guys place) and he's having a great time! Lets go to our correspondent....Matt..hew Brown for more.

" Hello this is Matthew Brown from Iran, you can see behind me the delegates..urm.. waiting for Bush"

I swear i want to rip their heads off sometimes, a news reader should be able to read a screen without urrrrming. Also i hate when they laugh and make jokes at any scientific report.
Lugggs and cuddles and hugs for all!!

Yeah the common practice is to pause and not say anything instead of saying "umm." It takes some practice to perfect that though, cuz it seems more comfortable to mutter something as opposed to nothing. But it's better to pause.
