Recently while dreaming, I suddenly came to the conclusion that I am dreaming, and therefore I can do whatever I want. But I haven't been doing any reality checks or really had lucid dreaming on my mind at all?
Anyway, shortly after coming to that conclusion, the dream begins to fade. So I spin around or rub my hands and it slowly comes flooding back. But after this, I don't know what to do. There is so much I'd love to do while lucid, but when I actually become lucid I just become lost. Usually all I do is look around and be wowed at how realistic everything is, but I never do what I REALLY wanna do, such as flying or visiting places that don't exist. Because of this, I lose lucidity VERY quickly, and resume my dream as per normal. 
So I guess my question is how do I stay aware while I am dreaming? It's VERY hard, I have discovered.
Edit: Note that once I discover I am lucid, I don't get super excited or anything, it just fades. Well, I don't feel excited.
