Both Stephen LaBerge and the guy who wrote Lucidology recommends to WBTB for 6 hours, then stay up for 45 minutes and then go back to sleep.
And even if it's harder to fall back to sleep, it's a much higher chance to get lucid dreams.
But.. What to do on those 45 minutes?
What do you guys do ? I used to stay up only for a few minutes, but the Lucidology recommends 45 minutes to 1 hour. I thought of sitting at the computer, but apparently the lights are bad for my inner sleeping clock.

Read a book or just lie there thinking about the day to come/reflect on the previous day. It's really not that difficult.
Try Meditating . Or better yet listen to Isochronic tones while meditating.
Don't stay up for 45 minutes, that's way too long. In my experience 15 is more than enough, and it can be pretty hard falling back to sleep after.
But if you want to do it, just write in your dream journal and use the remaining time to meditate or do yoga or maybe do the 61 point relaxation technique.
Staying up 45 minutes might work for Stephen LaBerge and the guy who wrote Lucidology but don't put too much stock in it. Personally, I think that method is counter-productive. The brain likes to dream in 100 minute cycles. Use this info to time when you would like to get up. If I wanted to try a WBTB I would set my alarm for the length of time I take to fall asleep (say, 20 minutes) plus 300 minutes (five hours) . I would not get out of bed but visualize the last dream I can recall. This works for me. What will work for you will be truly unique also. Good luck to you!

I usually stay awake for an hour.
Usually if You have good dream recal 45 minutes is not enaugh to write down the dreams with details from 4-5 hours of sleep :D
Beleve me im high speed typer ( programming is my job ) im using my lap to write down my dreams cause its much faster than hand writing.
If i dont have what to write im reading LD forums or some books on this topic. Good thing is also analizing previous dreams, finding cues, and other hidden information :)
Watching the sun rise is also very cool thing to do in early morning. Pasive meditation can make me sleepy, and thats what i want to avoid - yoga is much better.
Whoa, wait, after 5 hours we get up? I wake up naturally after about 4 hours then get up and WBTB for about 30 minutes, then it takes me another 30 to fall asleep, is this good?
And do you have to get out of bed or can you just lay there and reality check and stuff?
Whatever gets you lucid. There's no set foolproof step by step method. Do what works.Quote:

As I see opinions are actually really different...
For example, if I don't get out of bed I will fall asleep no matter what I do there (reading included). If I stay up less than 30 minutes I will fall asleep quickly without a hint for lucidity.
When I have the ability to do WBTB in the morning I usually stimulate my brain and body in all ways possible - I watch films (for about 30 minutes), go to DV, read my favourite articles and tutorials on LDing, drink coffee or green tea, sometimes just water, stretch muscles, do math, solve logical puzzles, write dreams of coarse, memorize plan for lucid, RC a lot...And I usually stay up for 45+ minutes. I don't do all of that at once, of coarse. It takes quite some time to fall asleep after that, but that's the point. Although I know that a lot of people won't be able to fall asleep after an intense WBTB.

I read a little more closer about what the different author or the ''famous'' People suggested and here is what I found.
Stephen LaBerge: Lay in bed and recall your dreams get up and go about your business for 1 and a half hour, then on the last half hour think about what you want to accomplish in your dream.
Lucidology 101/102: Get up and use Lucidology 101 part 5 techniques, which is basically 35 minutes of stretching. Then go to bad and do prerolls (relax as much as you can, switch position and relax again and so on)
Lucidipedia: Recall your dreams and go and motivate yourself for 1 hour. Tim Post watches a clip from The Matrix on his computer.
But right now I am doing the Lucidology 102 so then the answer is stretching for 35 minutes wohoo..
Well last night I was too tired to even get out of bed. I had a few dreams, but nothing special. Tonight, I will, WILL, get out of bed and stretch and stuff. I can't really do much else as it's the middle of the night and there are other people sleeping close by.
In the Lucidology 102 I recieved a PDF which contains questions and answers and there he said that the Stop Drop and Roll in Lucidology 101 is not supposed to get you to waking sleep paralysis, just to make you fall asleep. And you don't have to stay up for 45 minutes that is just the time he found was best to fall asleep on because he couldn't fall asleep before it! So he actually suggested me to get back to sleep immediatelly. The Secret is the Timer Method! I have never been able to get to sleep paralysis with a Traditional WILD, but I have woken up in sleep paralysis every time I used the timer method!
But the point is that you only need to stay up for a few minutes on the WBTB or more if you need to.
Well whenever I wake up, it's after a REM, where I want to be. The next REM is always about an hour away, so I get up for half an hour, because it normally takes me about half an hour to fall asleep, i.e. one hour, as in straight into the REM.

Lot's of people find Lucidology when they first searching for things pertaining to Lucid dreaming. However, it can be counter productive to try out the techniques he provides. I personally found the videos to be detrimental to my lucid dreaming in the early stages.
As for what to do during WBTB, it just needs to be something that won't wake you up too much. Surfing the internet(this site specifically) is a good idea. As others have already mentioned Meditation while thinking about Lucidity is also a great idea. Some people like to take supplements during their WBTB, such as a glass of apple juice, a banana, peanut butter, or a small dose of caffeine. The main thing is to try to keep your mind thinking about lucid dreaming and keep an alert yet drowsy state of mind. 10minutes is the length I've had the most success with, but it depends on the individual.
Hehe ok thank you for the warning I guess.. But I actually have great result with his techniques. And just so you know (I got to know this from the Lucidology 102) the Stop Drop and roll is not designed to make you come in waking sleep paralysis, it's just a way to fall asleep quickly and come in unconscious sleep.Quote:

But here is the Timer Method:

and on every awakening make sure that you are laying completely still and have your eyes closed, and I have also noticed that I sometimes have a strong feeling of failure or to give up, just fall asleep and the timer will do the rest. If you want to have an explanation to why this happends watch his video. It's like a DEILD, but with much more control, but I would call this an EILD because I am not doing anything except falling asleep. Stop Drop and Roll is a RELAXATION technique, it's not used to induce sleep paralysis! It's used to fall asleep.
Every time I use this and do everything above correct, I allways either wake up in sleep paralysis OR wake up in a dream lucid.
And also this is what made this technique NOT work for me:
Too low volume so the alarm did not wake me up (Have some test nights just to see if the alarms really wake you up)
Disturbed other sleepers so I had to stop (I got a pillow with a speaker that only I can hear the sounds from, but you can also use a mp3 with earphones)
I couldn't fall back to sleep (Use some of the Lucidology relaxation techniques)
Programme your mind to give you a lucid dream.

That's a good timer to use. Don't ever buy anything from Lucidiology. There are plenty of free, and better, alternatives.
