Would my dream sign be effective?

I decided to use an interval timer website. and make a sound come up ever 20 minutes. When the sound plays I look at my hands and ask if I'm dreaming, then I look around and wonder how I got here.

Do you think this would be effective when it comes to lucid dreaming? The point of this is to maybe make myself get used to doing reality checks when I hear this beeping sound (Maybe I'll hear the sound randomly while dreaming) and then I'll start doing reality checks frequently without the use of the timer. Either that or play the sound while I'm asleep, but I'm afraid it'll wake me up. Sadly I only hear the beep sound when I'm in front of my computer which is an issue.

      So what do you think?

It is an ok idea but it has some flaws. From what you posted it seems to have a big problem, because you would be sleeping and you could not hear it. The thing is that you could become reliant on this sound to make you lucid which isn't the best thing. You need to rely on your own awareness rather than a computer sound or something of the sort. If your computer doesn't appear in your dreams very often then how do you expect to become lucid? You want to get used to relying on your own awareness, now this doesn't mean you should stop the whole computer deal, but mainly focus on being aware of other dream signs and doing RCs when you see/hear them. Anyways, it's an ok idea but focus more on being aware.

Hope this helps man! Happy lucid dreaming!

A dream sign is something that pops up in your dream regularly, so yeah this could work.
Your hearing never turns off when you sleep (Ya know, incase you get you get attacked by a bear), so the sound could carry over, I currently have a worry that constant music disrupts your dream pattern, because I'm currently having poor recall.
So keep it up, make sure it's loud enough to get through to you, and distinctive enough to hear though all the dream delusions. If it does wake you up you can always try a DEILD.
      Good luck

I used that program in my first two days of lucid dreaming practice (like 9 months ago) and can tell that it gave me 2 lucid dreams. It's effective in the way that, you get used to do so many reality checks when hearing the sound, that at some point, you will start wondering "hmm I should be doing a reality check wonder when the sound will pop".

Assuming that program is the same one I was using, which popped a sound in RANDOM intervals.
