      Always able to dream?

Today, after school, i was in the car for 30 minutes. It was really tired, so I closed my eyes for a bit. I actually started dreaming for what felt like about three minutes(about me sitting in front of my computer playing a game). Then, the car hit a pothole and everything turned blue (which I responded to by thinking my computer blue screened). This brings up my question:

Say, since I'm in bed, can I fall asleep just like then and do some sort of technique (Awareness/WILD/WBTB type thing) while falling asleep? I've seen the tutorials on here and they all have said to fall asleep first and then wake up in the night and do the technique. What is stopping me from doing it now?

Now, the key here is that you did that during the equivalent of an afternoon nap. The tutorials actually say to either wake up in the middle of the night to WILD, OR during an afternoon nap. The whole point is that you have to be in REM sleep to dream, and usually upon going to bed at the normal time, your brain needs some deep slow wave stage 3 sleep first.
