Anyone else resort to superstition & rituals?

Since I have not had the consistancy with my lucid dreaming latley, I have found myself, almost on a subconscious level, using superstious rituals.
Meaning I anlyize what did differantly to have a lucid dream!
Was it my new pillow? Was it the air conditioner? should I use it agian etc, etc. .

The same can go for dry spells!
What did I change? Should I do this or that...blah blah.

Yeah! I sometimes do the same thing, I start thinking: maybe it was the sheets I used... maybe I should use another pillow... maybe I shouldn't have slept on my back... and all sorts of ridiculous things. I think it's normal

Howetzer, I think everyone who struggles with lucidity or who's having a dry spell has examined what they wore, what they did, the temperature, the lighting, the day, the time, etc. etc. in an attempt to successfully become lucid again (everyone I guess but SantaDreamsToo).

I know there are certain rituals I perform, whether it be repeating certain affirmations or asking for the help of my subconscious or spirit guide. Would these actions be considered superstitious and, if so, what's the harm?

To me, it seems a normal reaction to try to figure out what worked before and then trying to replicate the exact same conditions hoping for a similar outcome.

If sleeping in different places each night is considered superstitious because I think it allows me to have more LD's because I sleep more comfortably then yes I do. There is nothing wrong. Basically if you don't have some sort of superstition about what may and may not work you're behind in the ballgame in my opinion.

Superstitions help us believe something will work. Even if it doesn't produce the result believing in it gets you one step closer.

Indeed all the effect of supersitional acts and rituals is placebo, but you'd better not underestimate its power. Especially in subjects like dreaming, the psychological effects are critical. If you really believe that something will work, it will most likely work at least a bit. It might be placebo, but placebo is often really strong an effect.

I used the full moon in a supersticious way to achieve my 2nd LD. However, I convinced myself that I would have a lucid dream because of the moon before I had even tried it.

I was thinking about LDing and going to bed that night when I noticed it was a full moon out. "That's IT!", I thought "I bet tonight's the night!"

      It worked!

      But only one time

well, for me it came down to sleep position. That and looking back into my past for the memories that were in my lucids. It appears to be working though.

Reminds me of a funny story from India:

An old Brahmin Priest was eager for Final Liberation from the Wheel of Life and Death -- he had already spent a good number of lifetimes as a Brahmin and was determined to get it right in this lifetime. Well, it is said that if a Priest can perform 100 Sacrifices in a row flawlessly, he shall be instantly liberated. So he began. Oh, it seemed there was always problems here and there. Often his pet cat would disturb the Ritual and so he began to take the precaution of tying Kitty to the post so it could not interfer with the required Perfection.

Well, finally, one day it finally happened -- he finished the Series of 100 Perfect Pujas and just as Legend Promised -- POOF! In a Great Ball of White Light he was made One in Perfect Peace with the Universe -- his Being dissolved in Absolute Bliss.

But who was to continue on as Priest in this Village. Well, there was a son. He had studied something of the priesthood and there were books to which he could consult. But on his first Puja Ceremony, there seemed to be something missing.

I NEED TO TIE A CAT TO A POST.
