Reaching Lucidity - Not Quite. Numbness and slight tingling but no SP.

      Hello,

I am new to these awesome forums so this will also serve as a formal introduction.

I know this has probably been said before, but I believe my issue is sort of unique in the lucid dreaming community.

I try about every 2 nights to lucid dream using the WILD technique. I sit in bed, do some meditation, breathing exercises to get me relaxed and then just chill, if I feel i'm losing consciousness I focus on my tinnitus and it brings me back a little to conscious awareness. The thing is, I usually have to wait about 30-40 minutes to even feel a numbing feeling. Once I reach that state of feeling numb ( usually only my legs) I just stagnate in that state for about another 10 minutes ( yes, i'm very persistent) before asking myself what the heck i'm doing.

I never feel like I want to move or anything like that. Last night I felt really numb in my legs ( more than usual) and at one point my legs started tingling, but very lightly. After that, I thought I was in SP and opened my eyes, but then I started reading on my Ipad and did some reality checks, all of them failed, which meant I wasn't dreaming.

Is there something I am doing wrong? I often have to wait very long ( 40-50 minutes) and nothing ever happens, at that time I usually just give up.

Feel free to ask me anymore questions, or clarifications.!

Around 10-11 at night. Also I tried WILDing during a nap this afternoon and realized something else. I start to doze off and a dream starts ( non lucid) and then after like 10 seconds I realize I am dreaming and i'm like 'OH SHIT' and come back to full consciousness which sucks.

TL;DR: I try to relax but panic when realizing i'm losing consciousness.

apparently, after lurking these forums for teh month I read it's better to WILD in the middle of the night or at dawn like 6 am 4-6hrs into sleep. That's as far as i ever reached at night-- the same as you described. It's much harder i find,

When Pikachu is in doubt he does a reality check.

I have often thought my tinnitus is the reason for so many of my lucid dreams as it is there, ringing, 24/7 .

Don't try to WILD in the evening. Try it with WBTB: Get up after 5 hours of sleep (or whenever you are in a REM, you have to find out yourself). Then, try to do your exercise. But don't force yourself to stay awake. Even in a WILD, your ultimate goal is to fall asleep.

Alright. Thanks a lot for the advice, I have actually tried WBTB a few times before but just fell asleep.

UPDATE: I just had what I think was my first lucid dream ever. Something happened and I realized that it was impossible in real life, I became lucid, and did a reality check ( breathing through nose while blocked) and it worked. I think I was lucid but I am still unsure if I was just dreaming that I was lucid or actually lucid. I was much more aware of my dream environment but it wasn't clearer than a normal dream.
