Am i going about this wrong? Basics steps to attaining lucidity?

I think i may be going about attaining lucidity wrong! I keep a dream journal, and id say my dream recall is pretty good by this point as i can write down at least two decent sized dream each morning. But i have been having trouble remembering to perform reality checks throughout the day. Also recently iv sort of given up, i know it takes persistence but i just got tired to trying and sort of stopped doing any attempts at MILD this week. Im not sure if what im doing is correct when i do attempt MILDs though. Usually, i get in bed, take about 10 minutes to get comfortable, then just lay there trying not to move, usually i end up having to move or else i fall asleep. Am i doing something wrong here, i have read plenty of guides but the basic guidelines i stared with, are just lay there and try not to move while repeating something like 'i will lucid dream tonight' .

I still really want to do it, its just im in an exam year in school and im always so tired when i get to bed. Its not like i go to bed late either, im always in bed by half 10, though often its closer to 10. Anyways i was really hoping maybe one of ye could just give me the very basic steps i should follow to help me attain lucidity? ANy help is hugely appreciated, the answers on my previous question were great too :P

Hey! I am also fairly new to lucid dreaming and in all honesty I think I would of given up if it was not for me trying the lucidology timer and although I can see it is hardly as effective as some other techniques it is a easy way without much work to give you that first lucid dream which will encourage you too keep trying to perfect your MILD technique :).

I literally was only lucid for about 15 seconds but wow that was a amazing experience I will post the links for you to try it hopefully it will give you some encouragement after you get that first one out the way.

You said it yourself persistence is key! Imagine how much it will have paid off when in a years time when you getting to expert stage ;).

Make sure that you are really doing RCs correctly. But! If you don't have the time then set it down for a while and come back when you have the time. I do RCs when I am at work. But my work allows for me the time to do them properly.

If you cannot practice correctly because of time do not do it at all. Practice doesn't always make perfect, but it does make permanent.

Your RC should not be done mindlessly. You have to actually question your reality before your RC. Remember, it's not the RC that's making you lucid, it's your awareness. I also like to approach DILD from new points of view. New (more efficient in my opinion) variations of DILD have been going around lately. like ADA and SAT. Also, you've been approaching MILD incorrectly. You don't have to stay still in MILD, it's WILD that you should be staying still in, and while doing MILD in the begining of your sleep is fine, it's best to do it after a WBTB.

Oh, and I forgot to mention DEILD. It's basicly an easier variation of WILD. Here you can read a guide of this technique

Finally, Lucid dreaming is something fun, somthing that you shouldn't get frustrated or sad about. Consider it a hobbit if you wish, but the most important thing is to not give up. Believe in yourself :)

Your recall seems to be decent. Even if you take a break from anything else for a while, don't give up on writing your dreams. I'm sure you will get some cool ones and it will motivate you to start practicing again.

From the beginning, it's ok to have some cue for RC. Like when your watch beeps on the hour. Or each time you use the restroom, walk throught the door, see your dream sign, or anything that works for you. Once you get used to this, you will start remembering by yourself and looking at the watch, even before it will beep again. At that time you should switch to spontaneous RCs.

RCs are best used together with daytime awareness. First you ask yourself a question: "wow, is this a dream?" really consider the possibility and then RC to confirm/disprove. Here is one way how to RC+awareness - Collection of techniquest for DILD. DILD is just a MILD+awareness and RCs.

Mantras and awareness+RCs are done during day, and then when you going to sleep. In the linked article there is also about that. But no, you don't need to stay still for mantras.

It's ok to take a break and come back when you have time. The intent and excitement are the most important things and if you don't have those for whatever reason, it's gonna be hard to get lucid.

Liza, you need to discover what works for you. I use progressive muscle relaxation combined with visualization. It works for me. We are all individuals and certain things will not work for certain people. Study the mechanics of the sleep and dream processes(Wikipedia is a good source) Keep a dream journal. Whatever you do, don't give up! Lucid dreaming is an amazing and life affirming experience.

You need to remember that lucid dreaming takes time and patience. I have been going at it for around two years now and have only had around 10 lucid dreams. It took me almost a semester to have my first full lucid dream, so don't give up, just keep in mind that it is something that can be hard to achieve. Also you may want to try other techniques. DEILD (Dream Exit Initiated Lucid Dream) can be very effective if you manage to do it right and you could also try the WBTB (Wake Back To Bed) technique.

Just remember that it is possible to lucid dream but it will take time.

Iv done that for the last 2 days now. And ill keep it up as long as it takes [hopefully not TOO long :P]
I have noticed that over the last week my dreams have become much less clear, and my dream recall is a bit worse. I cant imagine why this could be!

No worries, recall fluctuates due to reasons that we sometimes don't even notice and often for no reason at all. There could be some stress, change of sleep schedule, or anything.

RCs by themself are not enough. Most important thing is awareness and emotions you put into your RCs. And adding mantras is a great way to boost your chance of getting lucid.

I think everything that I was going to say has already been said, one tip though to help with remembering: Maybe draw or write something on your hand so that every time you look at it you will remember? :)

Before we go any further let me just point out that if you want to use the MILD approach you ought to hear about it from the guy who invented it, if you haven't already, read EWOLD, chapter 3 deals with DILD-based methods.
