New way to get lucid

Hi everyone this is my first post, now I think I may have discovered a "new" way to get lucid, I don't know if someone did this before me though, but I have read tons of threads and articles, even a couple of books about LD and never found anything like this.
I came up with this idea because I have had this experience like 3 times: I'm dreaming and in my dream I can listen a song and when I wake up there is actually that song playing.


So I thought that this could be very promising if used well and I just gave it the first try last night and it worked!!! I'm so excited :D

This is not a technique cuz all you gotta do is sleep with headphones.

What you're gonna need are just 3 things


-Headphones

-An alarm that allows you to select the "song" from the music library

-Something with you can record audio


What you will have to do:

Maybe this sounds ridiculous but here it is: what you're gonna do is record yourself saying things like "You are dreaming" "Is just a dream" "Lucid dream" "You are in a dream" things like that, for about 3-5 minutes (I said the words slowly and it worked so you should do it too)

once you have the recording get it to your phone or to wherever the alarm will be, select the recording and set the alarm 4-6 hours after you go to sleep and that's it, when you go to sleep plug the headphones and lower the volume so it won't wake you up, but it has to be loud enough to easily understand the words.


My experience:

Well I just tried it once (last night) and it worked because I was in my dream and then started to hear my voice saying that I was dreaming, I could clearly understand the words, but for some reason I didn't care what I was hearing and a few moments later I woke up, happy because it worked but a bit angry because I didn't get lucid.
I'll try it again tonight but this time I prepared my self to heed the voice :)

So please give it a try and tell me your experiences, I'll answer as many doubts as I can.

Sounds pretty good. I'll give this a try next week and see if I can get my first DILD!

That's a good solid technique I can't say it will work for everybody because it is sort of like a toned down version of a tool you can already use. Ever heard of subliminal messages? This is sort of like liminal messages because it's not going to your subconious. And I once brought a sublimal lucid dreaming MP3 and well I'm not going to lie it didn't work the best. But this does have potential because I know some people who do a very simular thing. It's sort of like a external auto suggestion, if you know what I'm saying.

Great minds think alike. What you are talking about is in the CAN WILD thread. This technique uses the Easy MP3 alarm. This alarm lets you point to an MP3 obviously.

What I like about your method is that it uses your own voice instead of a strange sound (which can also be helpful I imagine). I like the idea of giving myself messages, and that's exactly what I do. It has worked for me one time. It uses the principle that my dreams are sometimes infiltrated by the alarm. You and I have stumbled upon the same thing. It is something more than simply Electronic Induced Lucid Dreaming, but manipulating that electronic device.

I like the Easy MP3 alarm because it only goes off once, so you don't have to turn it off, therefore waking up and moving. You can make it short and hopefully it gets in your mind while dreaming. If not, you can open multiple instances of the alarm and it can go off again whenever you set it. I have set several instances of it to try to make sure I hear it.

Good luck with this technique. The radio gets in my dreams, but because I don't have apriori knowledge of it, it just begins to form my dreams. The one time I heard my own alarm, I did kick lucid, so I totally believe in this technique. I also log my dreams that are infiltrated by the alarm. I like to keep track of them.

I have used audio, but not like this. I had a song playing on repeat while meditating. I then took a nap with the song still playing. It worked the first time, but I can't get to sleepwith headphones on anymore. :( not during naps at least.

I agree, that music does distract me in my sleep/dream cycles. When i am trying to concentrate all i hear is the music in the background even if it is on low.

I did my second attempt yesterday and again I heard the voice for a few seconds but again I didn't care and threfore didn't get lucid, so I'm still very happy cuz it works! but I'm also getting a little frustrated, gotta find a way to care about the voice that tells me I'm in a dream.

This is called EILD and is a set technique, infact the nova dreamer and Remee were both made based on this technique.

Yes I've tried the subliminal messages for like a week, it was a mp3 wich played a relaxing soundscape and an inaudible voice (it was supposed to be audible for the subconscious) but I didn't get any LD, maybe it was because I didn't listened the mp3 enough time, i dunno.

Well GangsterPanda I hope one of these days you'll try this and share your experiences :)

An iPod touch, with the app called Voice Memos and apple headphones with mic

Yeah, I tried playing classical music while I slept, and I heard it throughout my dream. (although it didn't make me lucid, like I had hoped)

The other time I did it, with a WBTB, my mind actually added Vocals to it, (in French, it sounded like), which I recognized as unusual and actually got up for to check what the name of the "new song" must be. However, my sister woke me up just before I turned on the (in-dream) computer screen. Otherwise, I may have become lucid from it.

There is an iPhone/iPod app called Dreamz that allows you to record your message and then (supposedly) plays it when you are dreaming.
There is a couple of threads in the forum discussing it.
Oh, it's not free, but anyway it's quite cheap.

I don't really consider it WILDing, regardless of what the method indicates. I consider it EILD.

I consider it more like DEILD and in my opinion it is very similar to WILD but somewhat easier.

I figure it is more like EILD because--let's say I'm not dreaming. My alarm goes off and I hear it. I don't wake up, but I begin dreaming right when it goes off. That would certainly be an Electronically Induced Dream, and if a lucid, an EILD.

Let's look at another scenario. You are dreaming when the alarm goes off. You don't leave the current dream, but the alarm alters your dream. You haven't really exited the dream.

Yes you're right, but I don't know if I'm wrong but I think the CAN WILD is about WAKING UP to an alarm that will turn off automatically so you don't have to move and you can DEILD, I'll read the thread again maybe I'm wrong

DEILD is about waking up after 4-6 hours of sleep but you have to remain perfectly still when you wake up wich is the most difficult part I think, then you just have to do what you would do when WILDing but it will be easier since you come from a REM period and you didn't move when you woke up.

I guess if you know when your REM cycle is, then yes, that makes sense. I think it sounds more like WILD in that case.

And I remember a thread where someone hid subliminal messages in relaxing audio sound/music, and asked people to sleep with it playing. Can't remember if it worked for others, but it didn't do me good when I tried.

About 15 years ago I bought a thing from the Lucidity Institute (aka: Stephen LaBerge) called the Dream Speaker. It hooked up to my DreamLight, which was the (vastly superior) precursor to the NovaDreamer.

You would record whatever you wanted into the Dream Speaker (I had my wife say, "This is a dream"), then plug it into the DreamLight, stick the Dream Speaker under your pillow, put on the DreamLight's mask and go to sleep. When the DreamLight detected REM, the speaker would go off at whatever volume and interval you preselected. If your expectations and intentions were well set, when the thing you recorded wanders into your dream, you'll remember that you're dreaming, and the fun begins.

I didn't use it much -- I was always too light a sleeper for stuff like this, and the machines always woke me up, no matter how much I wanted them to work. Regardless, suffice it to say that the idea and the technology have indeed been around a while. As Dutchraptor said already, they even named this "method" EILD (Electonically Induced Lucid Dream).

Keep in mind, though, that it would only be worth trying if you could sync your recording with REM. I don't think there's an app for that yet, though I do know LaBerge is working on one.

So yes, IANthedrummer, though this idea is a good one if done correctly, it isn't terribly new. I hope, though, that it works for you!

I don't know when I am in REM, but I seem to be in REM when I am ready to wake up and a couple hours before, so I'm confident I can have it work again.

If you have ever had a news broadcast or song from an alarm enter your dream, you know that this method could make you dream. Whether or not you become lucid is another story, but it worked for me once. I'm glad I have it on my machine.

Sageous thank you for posting and that's some good info. I never heard about the Dream Speaker.

No problem. I doubt the Dream Speaker Exists anymore, and you still need a NovaDreamer to drive it, but I thought I'd share that info just to confirm that this is a good idea, and that some smart people (like LaBerge) have tried to capitalize on it.

Finally I did the 4th attempt and it was the best so far, I was very sleepy and tired last night so I went to sleep without trying any technique to get lucid, but when I woke up this morning it was still very early for me to get up, so I set the alarm with the recording to "tell me I was dreaming" in 20 minutes and then I went back to sleep, I don't remember my dream very well but I do remember when I heard my voice telling me I was dreaming but after a few seconds I "woke up" then I tried to turn the alarm off but when I did it didn't stop! I was in a false awakening!! and then I actually woke up.... so:

Attempt 1: I heard my voice saying that I was dreaming but I didn't care and a few moments later I woke up

Attempt 2: The same than the previous

Attempt 3: Nothing

Attempt 4: FA

I'll try again tomorrow (I can't do it tonight because I have to go to school very early)

5th attempt

I went to sleep at midnight, and set a normal alarm to wake me up at 6 am then I get up for a bit and
set the alarm with the recording (just like the last attempt), went to sleep and like 20 minutes later I heard "You are dreaming" for about 10 seconds and woke up :/ BUT

I went back to sleep and in my dream I was in my bedroom and suddenly realized that I was dreaming!!!! but I got so excited that I woke up.

So I dunno if I got this lucid dream because of the recording or not but I think I'm getting better results every time :D

^^ I would say it has something to do with hearing the recording.

Yeah me too :) and yes I'm so happy I hadn't have a LD since October (even trying to WILD or DILD) and now I tried this few times and BAM! now I need to stay calm when I get lucid XD

I would try this, but I have the simple problem that when I go to sleep with a pair of headphones on, they don't stay on. This does sound quite interesting though, not that it would necessarily work for everyone, but it's worth a shot if you can keep a pair of headphones on your head. c:

Keep trying Ian. I would try it, but earbuds bother me. It seems that if you could go to sleep with music playing, it might not get into my dreams. I've gone to sleep with the radio playing and it didn't affect my dreams...that I know of.

On the other hand, when the radio comes on during silence, it often works its way into my dreams. That's why I like the Easy MP3 Player.

Ultimately though, I hope you keep trying this method and keep recording your results. You seem to be having better results, and hopefully they will keep getting better.

Hey! I forgot to mention that I DON'T use headphones anymore, I just place my ipod beside me and lower the volume and it's still working 8 )

6th attempt


I could had have a DEILD with this one but I'm a total noob at DEILDing.
I did a WBTB in the morning and like the last 2 attempts I set the alarm and went to sleep and again I heard my voice again but this time I woke up almost immediately but like 1 or 2 seconds before I woke up I kind of realized that I was in a dream but I also knew I was going to wake up and yes I did, but this helped me beause I knew that if didn't move I could get a LD (DEILD) so I remained completely still for about 3 minutes but I felt very uncomfortable so I could't help moving >:/ I need to practice that.





Attempt 1: I heard my voice saying that I was dreaming but I didn't care and a few moments later I woke up

Attempt 2: The same than the previous

Attempt 3: Nothing

Attempt 4: FA

Attempt 5: A very short Lucid Dream but I'm still not completely sure if it was because of the alarm with my voice.

Attempt 5: Helped me with DEILDing but I failed.

Hi, guys
I'm an music producer, and for a few years during my teen age I had a habit of listening to music everyday through headphones before sleeping

here's my experience with this
when I don't take the headphones off by the time I'm fast asleep I will have an constrictive, suffocating or otherwise claustrophobic feeling/experience in a dream, transforming the scene of my dream, kicking in halfway during the night
and upon waking up my ears are warm and weary of the headphone weight etc.
So what I did is when I'm on the verge of going deep asleep while already seeing parts of a dream in a daydream like state,
I'm with half/closed eyes removing the headphones or shutting the ipod down, and then power myself down into sleep continuing with my daydream thoughts into the real dream while never losing awareness, until my dream is done or it's time to wake up
I've been also use the sleep function on devices, like they shutdown after a period of time say 20mins or 2hrs and beats having a HP on your head ;)
you've also got cpu apps like killwinamp which shutdowns you computer after a user programmable time or set to number of songs in a playlist very handy & cool,
cuz I hooked up my dolby 5.1 to the cpu ;D
by the way the best background music for me to fall in sleep/dream to is soft jazz like dianna krall or sarah brightman
even trance from the 90s-00s with it's repetitive trance-inducing beat and twinkling melodies will do the job also works for a few people I know

I'm still learning about how things are named and terms like lucid and non-lucid dreaming, WILD etc.
but I actually don't know non-lucid dreaming as I'm always aware I'm dreaming
I don't ever say or ask in my dreams "am i dreaming?" cuz to me it's obvious, as it is somewhere else than the place where I fell asleep, (like matrix jacking in boom you're somewhere else)
and I'm always feel eager to do something in a dream than waste my time how real or fantasy like it is, I guess that works different for everybody

however I don't use music to wake up cuz it doesn't work for me unless it's like big stereo max vol loud, this is because I dream about music, playing music or the audio output of my dream overwhelms the external reality sound
the only thing that works alarm wise is too have a very sharp loud obstructive beep sound or else I sleep right through it, also if the alarm clock or shutdown device like a remote is in arms reach (less than a meter) I will even shutdown the alarm while never leaving awareness of my dream, waking up later why the hell didn't the alarm go off LOL
So my alarm is actually around 4m away from me on max volume with a obstructive error sound so in order to shut it off I have to get out of bed resulting in exit dream ;D
ones I'm awake freddie mercury/queen is the best energizer to start my day with hands-down :D especially the song "Born to love you" at a reasonable loud volume

anyway that's my perspective & experience, hope it helps, good luck dreaming guys ;D

That's awesome! and it sounds a bit similar to what I do, and if it works that good for you I believe that one day, with this method I'll be able to have LDs in a very reliable way :D

Unfortunately the Zeo headband doesn't seem to allow you to have an alarm that is played on detecting REM. Their "Smartwake" feature is supposed to be able to advance the alarm that you normally set to have it go off in liht sleep rather than the middle of deep sleep, but mine just doesn't seem to work at all. Th ealarm just sounds when you set it to go off.

I've asked their tech support about this and they confirmed it. I've suggested that they should add it as a feature, but I got the impression they were reluctant - I don't know why.

Attempt No. 7


When I woke up at 5am. (WBTB) I set the alarm with my voice as always to "make me lucid" in 20 minutes. and I went back to sleep.

I remember I was dreaming about driving towards the downtown and since I live in a very high hill I could see that a part of the city was blacked out, when I was near the downtown I heard my voice telling me I was dreaming and this time I did care :D and therefore got lucid, yay!, I got out of the car and tried to stabilize my dream by seeing and rubbing my hands together.Everything seemed so vivid, I walked a bit over there and then I tried to appear a car (I didn't remember where I left the other one XD) by closing my eyes and thinking "when I open my eyes there will be a car" but I think it wasn't the best idea because when I closed my eyes it felt a weird sensation and when I opened them I was in my bed :(

But It was great!! I got lucid again, I had never have 2 lucid dream in a week, my last LD before this method was last year in October and now this :D :D :D :D

I'm eager to do it again but I can't do it tonight because of the school but I'll for sure do it tomorrow.

The problem for me is finding a pair of headphones comfortable enough to wear while sleeping on my side. I've tried binural beats and other subliminal-type audio tracks while sleeping, but I'm always awaken prematurely because of the discomfort of the buds pushing too deep into my ear..

I've read some of you complaining
about how uncomfortable is wearing headphones while sleeping, and I know*
so, my first 3 attempts I used earbuds and in the morning my ears hurted, so I started to use the speaker of my iPod, I just lowered the volume and put it beside me and it's still working.

Oh, well that's a good idea.. I may actually try this after all if I ever decide to charge my ipod. But hey, good luck to you! Sounds like you're already making good progress, and it does seem like a really good technique. Actually I think I will charge my ipod after all :3

Attempt No. 8


Ok now I'm totally sure this method works!!!*
I just had my 3th LD and the best part is that last attempt I also did I hope next attempt I'll have another 8 )


I did my routine:

-Went to sleep
-Woke up after 5 hours
-Set the alarm with my voice to make me lucid in 20 minutes.
-Go back to sleep

I fell asleep and my dream was kind of a nightmare: I remember I was at home and a stranger was in, I was a little scared and somehow I got a gun XD and shot him in the face, but immediately! seriously just when I shot him I heard the holly signal :D and became lucid, I shook my head to stabilize my dream, it worked well, everything semmed very real, then I went to the yard and tried to appear a machine that freezes the time (I know it sounds dumb but lucid dreams have no limits! yay! so I tried)
but I couldn't do it, I always suck at appearing things :( (if some of you know how please tell me) a few moments later I felt the sensations you feel when the LD is gonna end so I tried to stay by shaking my head again but it was too late.

So it wasn't a very long LD but I'm flooded with happiness because I never have LDs this often, the most LDs I've had before this are 2 in a month.

I'll do my next try tomorrow :)*







Attempt 1: I heard my voice saying that I was dreaming but I didn't care and a few moments later I woke up

Attempt 2: The same than the last one.

Attempt 3: Nothing

Attempt 4: FA

Attempt 5: A very short Lucid Dream but I'm still not completely sure if it was because of the alarm with my voice.

Attempt 6: Helped me with DEILDing but I failed.

Attempt 7: A lucid dream!*

Attempt 8: Another LD!!

Attempt 9

Nothing :/

That sounds good, I can't try that technique though because I wake up like 5 times in the night while sleeping and listening to music.. but I think it could work.

The more you wake up, the more dreams you have, the more aware, and the fresher the intent. :) just make sure you are getting enough sleep.
