It is absolutely normal to not realize that there's something wrong, especially in dream with some kind of storyline, because subconscious logic that is in dreams works differently that logic in waking life and also we often have false memories in dream instead of memories from waking life. But there are ways to counter that, mainly you need to raise your awareness in waking life, one way is to do reality checks through the day, remember that you actually need to believe that reality check would work when you do it, it is possible to make it habit, but it should be habit of actually questioning reality. As a good reminder, you could for example do an reality check whenever you do something that you do often through the day, like walking through door for example.
