Rotating caused me to wake up

      Hi,
I had a couple of lucid dreams last night after a long dry spell. In the second dream, I was sitting in my living room on the floor reading something. Then suddenly it occurred to me to look at my hands. my hands were all wavy. Then I looked at my watch(Analog) and it's numbers and letters kept changing. At this point I knew i was dreaming. Then I remembered to rotate to increase the vividness. I got up and tried to rotate, but the moment I did that, it all went dark and I woke up. I wasn't too excited or anything like that. I am at a loss to explain why that happened. Does anyone have any insight?

Just because you woke up while you were spinning doesn't mean the spinning woke you up. The act of spinning will only wake you up if you already believe it will wake you up. So be careful of how you think when trying to figure out dreams. Ordinary logic does not apply.

You might have woken up because your REM was ending and you were already heading for a brief awakening. It's easier to get lucid near the end of a dream when you are already in the process of waking up.

Dms111 summed it all pretty nicely ^^

Just an extra tip: remember that not every "trick" works with everyone, so be sure to try each thing properly. Sometimes what gives amazing result to a lucid dreamer works poorly for other. Find your own ways of doing thing if nothing else is working and eventually you'll have your own set of techniques to operate within lucid dreams

It was an false awakening. It was still a dream. Every time I spin I find myself in my dream bed.

As zoth00 said, stabilization effectiveness of different techniques varies from person to person, here's the tutorial that lists most known ones: Dream Stabilization and Clarity Tutorial - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views, go ahead and try different ones.
Though i personally consider spinning as kind of last resort option, and i generally use the 'engaging senses' and 'rubbing hands' techniques.
