Just before or at the beginning of / during would be the best I think. I've gotten woken up in the middle of a dream before and it's pretty easy to get back into if you don't move around, but the reason why people say after 5 / 6 hours of sleep is because the REM periods in the last couple of hours are so close together that it hardly matters. |

Thank you! I think I'm going to try out what works the best for me. |

Don't worry about REM, the important thing is to wake up in the morning, at least an hour before your normal wake up time. |

It's probably best to train yourself to wake up naturally at random times in the night. You definitely don't want to have a groggy WBTB, which could be caused by an alarm. My success rate on those is very low. Waking up naturally gives you a better chance of waking up at the right point in the cycle I think. |

So far I got 2 small lucid dreams from WBTB (waking up with an alarm) a few weeks ago. Last few nights I tried the mantra 'I wake up after every dream', And woke up after 4:20 hours and after 6:10 hours every night (was trying out FILD). I guess I'll continue doing WBTB, despite school has started last week |
