      On the right track? WBTB.

So last night I told myself I was going to do WBTB last night. Went to bed at about 10:30 after spending ten minutes browsing these forums and then woke up at 2:40am. Took care of any necessities and almost immediately fell back to sleep. Would this be a good routine to start out with? I can only try to convince myself to wake up as an alarm would be too loud at this time of morning because of my neighbors. No LD.

You could try this for 2 weeks or so and see what it does. I would recommend to stay up a little bit longer, wake yourself up a little bit, and then go back to sleep.
The purpose of a WBTB is to 'activate' your brain a bit, and then go back to sleep. It will be easier to recognize you're in a dream. If you immediately go back to sleep, you're still in 'sleep mode'.

I went to bed at 10:30 last night and woke up at 4:15 in the morning and went back to bed for about three hours. I'm guessing you are right in saying that I need to stay up a little longer. Either that or my recall isn't good.

Yes you need to stay up in the WBTB period so that you wake your brain as much as possible yet still be able to go back to sleep.
You could set an intention and tell yourself to wake up at the right time, and drinking water before bedtime might help.
If you have a mobile phone, maybe use the alarm on that but just turn the volume down.

      Too short.

My humble advice is as follows:

      1. Right after you wake up, take any notes you can from your previous dreams. Spend five minutes on this step. If you are doing this from bed, that is fine as long as you are not super sleepy, if you are, go to a table, use dim lights.
      2. After this, do your necesities, focusing on your dreams. Do not rush at the toilet, sit there for a few minutes focused on dreams.
      3. Go to a table and sit down, attempting to recall more from your dreams and write it down. Then focus on lucid dreaming and visualize your desired dream (dream incubation) Spent 10 minutes on this.
      4. WBTB and lay on your back, or on a position that you wont fall asleep right away, keep focusing only on your desired dream. Spend five mnutes.
      5. Get confortable to fall asleep asap, still focusing on your next dream.

You will invest an easy 30 minutes on this. Going to the PC, etc will destroy your serotonin and that will reduce dramatically the vividness, lucidity in your next dreams. Sometimes you might spend more if you have a lot to write down. This also helps building up dream recalling and wont take a lot of sleep away.

      Good luck!
