      Dream Recall dry spell

I am trying to work on my LD ability, but I have been having a lot of problems with dream recall lately. I try to think of my dreams as soon as I wake up, but I feel like they have just been completely erased from my head, almost like I had just shut my eyes for a couple minutes instead of sleeping for 8 hours. I was wondering if there are any methods, such as setting my alarm to go off before I would normally wake up, that would help me to remember my dreams better so I can start getting some dream signs.

Also, I just found out that my dad can LD almost at will every night, and I was wondering if that could make me more likely to pick up this abillity.

Right now I am just beginning, so the only thing I am doing to train my LD ability is a dream journal (when I can remember my dreams) and reality checks as often as I can. Any other suggestions?
Why does the eye see more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?

Are you doing any of the pre-sleep suggestions to remember your dreams? It helps me with recall. You know the old stand by:
"I want to remember my dreams."
"I want to remember my dreams."
"I want to remember my dreams."

      Hello Freedom In Flight,

Once in awhile I have this problem. It's very frustrating, I know. Here's what I do to remedy the situation.

I set my alarm for about 2 hours before I normally wake up.

I keep a digital voice recorder by the bed - I grab it and quickly record any recall I've had. I tend to dream late in my cycle, so I'm usually in one 2 hours prior to waking. The timing might vary for you, so you could experiment.

The reason I use a digital voice recorder instead of writing is: I don't want to become too awake in the process (light, movement, etc) and the recorder doesn't require that I fumble with any buttons because it's voice activated.

I then listen to the recording the next day and transcribe my words to my Dream Journal.

      Smiles,
      Deja

      Broke the cycle

      WARNING: Long Post:
I ended the dry spell last night. Its wierd, the only dreams that I have been able to recall have been LDs for the past few weeks (ive had 3). Anyway, last night was a really wierd one:

I work at a retail store, and I parked in the parking lot and got out, and then realized that I had a gun in my pocket. I thought "Hey I can't go to work with a gun!" so I was going to go back out to the car to put it up and couldnt find my car. Then I said "since Im dreaming, I will just fly home and put it up real quick." Which was wierd because before this point I didnt realize that I was dreaming, that was how I came to the realization. So I took off into the air, and started flying.

Just as an aside, throughout this entire dream I was worried about waking up, and the LD was not as good because I felt like I was mostly awake and just telling myself what to do, like a daydream. Comes to find out that I was on the edge of a false awakening, because I was totally asleep, and I guess I just had really good control of the events of this dream. I never felt like the dream was providing me with problems to solve, I felt like everything that i was facing was what i was coming up with in my head, again like a daydream.

Anyway, I was flying along and felt the need to hurry back to work, so I sped up and was flying really fast. I was about to wake up (a false awakening) so i started corkscrewing through the air (effectively spinning) and yelling out for myswelf to stay lucid, and not to wake up (which worked). I flew over a mountaintop and then the mountaintop dropped off, so I was flying horizontally with my stomach to the ground, then I kicked my legs under me and used the momentum to do a really slow, cool feeling gainer flip. I was diving toward the ground head first, and falling parallel to this really steep mountain slope, and pulled up in the last second before I hit the ground. I wasn't scared, I had complete control of the flight. Then I ended up back at work, and realized I only had on underwear so I had to find some clothes. I still knew I was lucid but was using my ability to solve my work problems, like finding clothes, instead of doing something cool like exploring the universe or something. I ended up with this really thick wooly brown sweater and some really hot sweatpants. It was funny, out of everything I could have worn, thats what I picked. Then a manager came over and had me fill up some Necco Wafer candy out front of the store. I then realized that since I was lucid, I didnt have to spend my time at work, so I remembered reading an epic post on this website (in reality) about someone who had a long fight, so I said that i wanted to have a fight. Since I had so much control, I said "im going to bump into some guy and have him fight me. So i bumped into him and he turned and went into a kung fu stance. We started fighting, and i thought that i didnt want to fight in the store, so i imagined an abandoned church/roman colosseum setting with marble and statues everywhere. we were both fighting in tiger style kung fu (even though Im more familiar with crane), and then I wanted to charge up a power and shoot it at him, so I was charging up and there was a growing field of energy around me, that got so big that a beam of light shot up through the ceiling and into the sky, and the clouds started circling around it. I shot the energy at him, but it didnt show what happened, and that thats the last part I remember.

The wierdest part about the whole dream is that everything in it seemed like it it was in my control. For example, when I wanted to fight, I tried to think of a way to initiate a fight, and i said if i bumped into him he would want to fight me and it came true. It felt more like a daydream than a lucid dream, but I think it only felt that way because I was on the verge of a false awakening. I know it was false, because whenever I have a false awakening everything is tinted with the colot red, which are the color of my sheets, and i couldnt see those in the dark.

wow, that was awesome. You're lucky to have that much control over your dreams. It sounds like you have quite good conviction; you said something would happen and it did. From what I've read that is essential for having lots of control over your LD's. You're lucky

      Hello,

About inheriting your father's abilities to lucid dream, I don't believe it is inherited. My mother said she use to be able to lucid dream almost everynigh since she was a kid, she didn't really like it I guess because she felt it made her groggy the next day. All I can say is that I did not inherit this ability.

      Thanks,

      Nick

      Re: Dream Recall dry spell

Great to hear you've ended your dry spell Freedom in Flight. The difference between remembering a dream and not remembering a dream is very often a matter of how you react when you wake up. Be sure and not move when you first wake up, as your dream body is more loosely attached to the physical when you first wake up, which will allow you to remember your dreams from the other dimension if you do not move. One you move however, the loose connection is lost as can the dream very often if it was not vivid enough to stay in your mind. So lay perfectly still and wait for whatever thoughts come into your mind, which will probably be thoughts of something you were dreaming about. Once a couple of dream thoughts come into your mind of what you were dreaming about then either write them down or record them on a voice recorder. Getting that first thought is the most important as it will sometimes trigger 5 or 6 other thoughts of other dreams you've had during the night.

Above all it sounds like you have an excellent dream resource right there in your own family. It can be a lot of fun sharing dreams with family members, especially the crazy dreams.
