Exclamation HeLp please! I think I have one foot in the door of lucidity, but, one foot that's not.

So, I have been practicing to try and have lucid dreams for about seven weeks now. I think I'm really close, but I'm not exactly sure how to fully get there. Let me explain. Two nights ago, I had probably one of the most vivid and meaningful dreams that I've had in a while. Here it is:

Me and my brother are in some room that seems to be inside of a high school. There are double doors in front of us. They are wooden, but the handles and window frames are metal. Somehow, the handles pull themselves down and the doors open at the same time. My brother and I go through it. After we go through it, I somehow see a view of the doors that we previously had and the doors are now shutting and lock permanently with a red dot that lights up in between the handle. I know that I HAVE TO go down this path/obstacle course ahead of us and I know that someone and/or something is waiting for me at the end of the path in a bright, white space. However, the lights where my brother and I are are turned off. I start hiding behind my brother as we progress through this maze obstacle course because I'm scared and can barely see. But, I know that nothing will actually hurt me. Then, somehow, I end up in a rectangular-walled bathroom that has 4 doors, one on each wall. I am facing one of the long walls in front of me. It is still dark and I'm still scared. **semi-lucidity... maybe->** But, now, I decide that I need to be brave and I say or think to myself,"If I want to be able to explore the dream world, I need to be able to fearlessly explore the real world." I go through the door behind me and see what looks like a bedroom with only one door that was on my left when I enter the room. It is pretty dark in this room as well. I see some girl that does stupid Vine videos whom I seem to know already. She seems to be sitting in front of a computer. We are talking, but, I forget what we are talking about. All of a sudden, her man comes through the only door in the room. He is tall, seems to be Hispanic, and has short, black hair. He casually says,"Hey." I say,"Hey" back. The girl that I met runs to her man to give him a hug. She wraps her arms around his broad (not fat) body, while he has no emotion on his face and doesn't even hug her back. I think the dynamic of their relationship is cute. The girl then runs back to her computer. I turn to her and ask her,"Where is the door to lucidity? Where am I supposed to go?" She says,"I can't tell you where you're supposed to go. But, I WILL tell you that if you keep going to the left, you'll keep going in circles". I exit the room from the door that I came through and am now in the bathroom again (which is still dark... Like everywhere else) in the same position I was in to begin with. I look to my left and notice that there is a white toilet in the left corner with its top lid up and it is facing me. I go to it and look down in it. I suddenly spit out toothpaste by the right of toilet. I wonder to myself,"Why did I just do that?". I now somehow get white paper towels from the left side of me and am trying to hurry up and clean it because I feel like me getting to the end of this "path" is very important and urgent. I don't finish cleaning it up and leave the paper towels on the floor and think/say to myself,"Hnnnnn. I don't have time for this!" I get up and exit through the left door. When I look in the new room, I find that it is the SAME exact bathroom from before, except it doesn't have the mess by the toilet. I walk through the left door of this room as well only to find the same bathroom and go through the same exact door. Now that I find myself in the 4th bathroom, behind me, I hear the voice of the girl that I met screaming,"Hey! Get back here and clean up this mess!" I look behind me and see the 4 bathrooms(including the one that I am currently in) and see her boyfriend's head peaking out of the bedroom door in the first bathroom that I was in. Her boyfriend says,"You'd better get over here and clean up this mess." I feel guilty for leaving a mess in my friend's bathroom so, I turn back and exit the 3 bathrooms that I just went through and return to the first bathroom. When I get to the first bathroom, I notice that the toilet is now on the right side of the bedroom door instead of the left. I think nothing of it and continue using the paper towels that I had on the floor to clean up the mess I had made. The girl is at her computer still and tells me,"Clean it up with the 'datafibula'!" I say,"The 'datafibula'?! How do you even spell that?!" She says,"D-A-T-A-F-I-B-U-L-A. It's on the towel hanger." I now look towards the direction that the front door of the bathroom is supposed to be and notice that there is a white rectangular tub with its long side in front of and blocking the front door of the bathroom. There is a metal bar that is floating above the side of the tub closest to me. On the bar, there is a red rag with gold stripes. I look at it, pick it up with my left hand and call out to the girl,"You mean this dish rag?! (or something like that)" she says,"Yeah!" I say,"Why didn't you just say 'dish rag' then?" She doesn't answer and I start cleaning the mess up with the dishrag. When I look at the front of the bathroom, I notice that the tub and metal rod are no longer there and that the front door is still there. I don't know why, but, I dismiss the idea of using that door in front of me. (Dream done)

With a dream like this, I was really happy to know that I possibly had some control over my actions. However, I was still unaware that I was in a dream (I think). I am going to make a continuation of this post because I feel like this is already too long and I don't want to bore people to tears. But, do any of you guys have suggestions on what I need to do to fully obtain lucidity? I would really appreciate your answers. Please and thank you!

This morning, I had 3 False Awakenings in a row. And in 2 of them, I feel like I was or should have been lucid. But, I have no idea what I did wrong or what went wrong. Here are the dreams(False Awakenings):

      1st False Awakening:
-I'm in my room sitting upright towards the head of my bed. I turn my head to my right and look outside of the window above my heater. I think I'm just trying to see if everything looks OK. I decide that it does and then calmly look back. Then, I do a double take and when I look outside the second time, I noticed that the ground is actually and ocean that is kind of green. I say to myself, "HA!! This is a dream!" I then, perform the palm reality check. But, my palm doesn't go through and I feel the surface of my right hand. I even have five fingers. My hand looks just fine. So, now, I figure that me seeing the ocean outside of my window was just a result of me having too many eye floaters. Then, I look outside again and see people playing in a clear pool with my window on one of the pool's walls. And now I feel like my room, which is originally on the second floor, is now moved down to the first floor. I justify the pool by saying that,"Those are just people from the YMCA. But, I will do a reality check anyway." I do the same palm push with my thumb and the RC says that it's real. I say to myself, "Hmm. What's another reality check? Oh! What's 5x4? 20. Well, I guess this is real." When I look back in my room, I find that my room is now a whole lot larger and that I'm in a huge, square pool and two people from my church are in it; J and P. P is in the left corner and Jay is in the middle of the left side. He gets up and is wearing a black bikini and says she has to go to work. (Dream done)

      -2nd False Awakening:
I am in my regular room and DJ, JJ, and Des are in my room. Des has brown, straight hair that ends at the end of her neck and curves at the end. I am telling them, "I just had a False Awakening. P and J were in some pool in my room. Like, 'Why is P there?'" The three of them are laughing and exiting my room while I am still sitting in my bed. They all leave the room and I still hear them laughing. Then, I see Des poke her head leaning sideways from behind my wall and still laughing. She now has really long, black, wavy hair. But, I think nothing of it. (Dream done)

      -3rd False Awakening:
I look outside of my window and see the red house fall to the and on top of another house as if there is and earthquake only in that region. I see the bricks crumble on top of each other and hear a man screaming in agonizing pain. I am surprised and say,"Oh my gosh! That's so horrible! This HAS to be a dream!" Then, I start thinking to myself,"What if that earthquake had extended a little further and reached MY house? What about my cousins' house, which is so close? What would they have thought if my house had crumbled like that?" (Dream done)

I'm very proud of myself for finally performing a reality check, in fact two reality checks in my dream. But, I still had no luck. And in the 3rd dream, I had just been aware that it was a dream but, didn't think to do anything. Do you guys have any suggestions/tips/advice on what I should do to fully experience lucidity? Your anwers would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you!

About gaining lucidity, to me it just looks like your reality checks failed you. It happens sometimes.. For the RC's to work you HAVE TO expect them to work. The most effective RC for me is breathing through the nose while pinching it. If that fails, try to think back about what you were doing a few minutes ago.

Other than that, lucids tend to be low-quality if you don't stabilize/clarify.. These are a few tutorials on that:

      Hi Ajanime22,

now, I don't have an easy answer to solve your problem. However, there was some symbolism that struck me when I read your dream report, and I gave it some thought. Not sure if this is helpful, but here we go:

You're in your dream world with your brother standing in front of double doors (two ways to approach something, e.g. achieving a lucid dream). This symbol is repeated in the left/ right issue later in your dream. Left is usually interpreted as the subconscious side, associated with feeling, emotion, intuition and so on. Right would be the conscious side, associated with logic and reason. It is dark in your dream, which might reflect you not being conscious/ lucid. The girl in your dream tells you that if you keep going left, you'll go in circles (which is what you do later on. Btw, if you go left four times (4 bathrooms), you'll end up going in circles and get nowhere). So what about going right? Now, I realize this might sound like a stupid advice because you're not dreaming lucidly at the moment, but if you tell yourself to go right next time, you might do it next time you're dreaming and it might change something.

Another thought about you being there with your brother: In my lucid dreams, my sister appears quite often, and I found her to be a very helpful dream character, because she has abilities that I don't have (I'm talking about dream life here). It's like she's more aware of the nature of dreams and the dream world. She is all that I am not, she knows things I don't. (Now we're back at the dual nature of things, the left/ right issue that I talked about).

Maybe you could ask your dream brother to help you/ guide the way?

      Just a thought.

Good luck with your attempts to become lucid.

      ~Siri
