Hi Dani23! Welcome to the forum
The first explanation to why you "only" can become lucid in the final stages of your sleep, is because your mind is longer in REM-sleep after more hours of sleep. So because of the fact that you are dreaming more, you have a greater chance of noticing your dreams at this point.
In order to become lucid earlier in the night, you have to learn to become more aware during the day in general, so that you fall asleep with a higher degree of awareness.
And for stabilization, I can just say that it's something you have to practise and it's kind of like learning to stand on your hands.
It has more to do with your ability to focus your mind than to actually just doing one thing that stabilizes it all.
Lucid dreaming and awareness are something you develop and build over time, just like going to the gym.
But if I had to give you a practical advice, that would be to read up on as much as you can about lucid dreaming and try things out for the fun of it.
And if you want to develop awareness quickly, I suggest you look into the practice of meditation or mindfulness.
Have fun and enjoy your stay!
Peace!
