ok, i know there are a lot of these topics around concerning WILD, but here's another .

i usually go to bed at about 10/11 o'clock and set my alarm for 4, taking 30-60 mins to read or wake myself up a bit, otherwise i tend to just go to sleep and forget about the WILD.

so, i do reverse blinking for a bit, about 10 mins which seems to relax me, and then after that go straight into the WILD attempt. after about 10 mins of breathing, not counting, i see swirling shapes which after another 5 minutes get very vivid.

this is where the problem starts; once i get these vivid swirls i stay in the numb state just watching the swirls, then the swirls stop and come back again after a bit. it just keeps going in this cycle until i get bored and just go to sleep.

i felt a rushing sensation once, and nothing afterwards so i risked it and did a RC but i wasn't dreaming. i have felt very disorientated before and still do sometimes, but that feeling passes quite quickly.

so, any ideas as to what i might try to get myself deeper into sleep/into a dream?

There are better WILDers here on DV than me - and I haven't done it sucessfully for a while, which I put down to my life being more stressful at the moment - I find it hard to concentrate. But I used to do it alot.

I would suggest that rather than just watching, take an active role in constructing a dream setting or dream object. This worked for me. Also perhaps be prepared to wait longer before you get there - initially it could be an hour or so. BTW Do you move? You can't - it ruins the trance (IMO).
What happened for me was that after a while the visualised object would suddenly become hyper real/vivid. It would stop being a visualised object (or setting) and become a 'real' one - a lucidly dreamt one, that could be touched/ licked/ manipulated. A favorite method was 'seeing with eyes closed' where I would reconstruct the bedroom, as a visualisation, in greater and greater detail until (again often suddenly) it appears as real as when awake (or even hyper real). At that point it would often seem that indeed my eyes must be open (mildly disturbing/confusing at first) - but I would remind myself that it should be dark (and the dream version isn't) or there would be other discrepancies - therefor it mus be a dream. Then - I would stand up and wander off. Or after I'd done this a few times and had more experinece with LDs generally, I would spin to change the dream setting. Later still I would just imagine the desired dream setting from the start (this is also how to go back into a dream). Towards the end (before I stopped doing it for a while) I could WILD before going to sleep, or if I woke up, could WILD straight back in in just a few minutes or even seconds.

I'm going to try again with renewed vigour - then perhaps I'll have better advice.

      Keep at it
and please, please keep us posted,

      best of luck

Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

I have the same problem, FinalStraw.

slimslowslider; How exactly do you manage to recreate images in your mind without having your eyes twitch, blink, open, or get disturbed? Every time I try to actually focus on what I'm envisioning in the black space, my eyelids feel the need to force themselves shut to make sure that I don't open them before I'm in the dream state. It seems like a very sensitive stage in the WILD process, and I'd like to know what you do to make sure your eyes don't accidentally open.

Do you even worry about that stuff? Maybe it's just my worrying about it that makes it impairing for my WILDing.

here is both of your guys's problems

do NOT try to see HI, and certainly do not focus on the images that you see.

you will know right away that you have entered a dream... for instance i felt a GIGANTIC jolt when i had.

so basically its pretty simple.. just count and say im dreaming. then wait.

good luck to you! dont focus on HI or images!

I'm afraid I don't know - I never had a problem with my eyes. I do get an itchy nose though
It sounds like you are trying to visualise with your eyes? The images occur somewhere else I think - at least they do until you start dreaming and then I think the eyes get more involved. Some people can't visualise very well (even if they LD well) and so would need a diferent method, like counting breaths and/or verbal comands. My eyes also don't open, because when I go into a LD (WILDing) I can see perfectly so don't need to open them!

Whatever - I am sure worrying won't help.

good luck to you! dont focus on HI or images![/b]
Yes good luck! And hellpotato is probably correct, i.e. just trust the method - count and say "I'm dreaming" and wait, and wait more until something BIG happens, and don't give up (if it still doesn't work after 10 or so attempts we may need to explore other methods).

N.B. Visualisation is a perfectly good WILD method for many people. I am becoming certain that better success with all these methods (WILD, MILD etc) will be obtained if account is taken of the dreamer's learning/thinking mode.

Yea, I can't wait to see what modern science has to offer when it comes to dreaming! I'm sure this next generation is going to make a whole slew of scientific leaps in the consciousness fields.

I'm dropping you a PM right now slimslowslider, so don't miss it!

      Thanks again.
