Question! I have not seen this on any of the threads!

Hey everyone, im new to this forum but I want to say it appears to be very helpful and informative. However, there is one question (two if you count my poll, please answer) that I was wondering.

Ok, so when your dreaming you go through whats called REM, or so ive read, and this rapid eye movement only occurs when your dreaming. But just about every site I have read mentions that the length of your REM increases as you continue to sleep. Now lets say you are having a non-lucid dream, what would probably happen is after a short period of time your first "phase" of REM would stop and you would sink back into a different level of sleep.(Non-REM) However, what if you are having a dream during your first REM(the shortest one) and you become lucid, finally gaining complete control of your dream, is it possible to keep your first(shortest) REM lasting longer since you are now in control your dream?

Naturally almost all dream related topics are very confusing, but if you anyone could please make an effort to understand what im trying to say and add any value to my question I would appreciate it.

Well for starters, your poll is missing a lot of things. It says completecontrol over your dreams. That's completely different from having your first lucid dream. Also, most of the people on this forum don't have "complete" control. I had my first lucid dream (when actually trying to have one) in 10 days. Also, yes it is possible to increase the time you are in the dream. It might not be possible to actually increase the rem time but it may slow down "dream time" I heard that you should say something like "slow time" or "stop time" and imagine the clock slowing down. I tried it once I think and it did make my dream last longer but that might have just been a coicedence. Welcome to the board, SEE YA!

Well in my experience I dont need to be in REM sleep to dream lucidly, I can drop off and be fully lucid in a few minuts and dream time will be hours and I will wake up just a few minuts from when I last remember looking at my clock in the waking world.

Ok lets all forget my post, kind of a silly question i suppose. What i meant by it was how long did it take you all to gain both lucidity AND control of your first dream. but nevermind that.

Another thing ive been having some trouble with is sleeping, sort of. I can sleep just fine when i want to and ive never had problems sleeping, but what i mean is, when i try the dream recall method you all have talked about then i really cant get to sleep. ill sit there for HOURS and tell myself "you will rememeber your dreams, DAMNIT!" and finaly ill realize, i cant sleep when im talking to myself. So then about 30 minutes after laying in the dark repeating crap to myself, ill try and think about nothing at all, sure enough, 8 hours later, when i awake, i realize it worked. Too bad i cant rememeber a damn thing.

Heres another wierd thing that happened to me last night/morning(keep in mind i only learnt about lucid dreams 3 days ago). I was lying there like i said above muttering shit to myself, when i realized, sleep is far away. so i turned on my VERY old super nintendo and started playing donkey kong. haha I thought maybe if i played a little it would make me tired and i would fall asleep. Sure enough, it worked, but again, the last thought on my mind was nothing. So i had my alarm clock set for 5 hours later(3 am) because i read thats a good way to start waking up just after you dream to write it down. So i woke up, smashed my alarm clock, and went back to sleep, LOL! Well that didnt work. But whatever, i kept on sleeping, zzzzzzzz, and i awoke again at 7 this morning(no alarm clock or anything) but i sat there trying as hard as i could to rememeber atleast one dream, no luck. By now im pissed off, (yeah i know im not supposed to get pissed off) so i decided to try one more time. Ok i wake up, guess what i dreamt about, the very last part of the very last level i played on donkey kong! AHHHHHH it was such a boring dream, of course i had no control, and it was me swimming around in the level i most hate! I wrote it down anyways.

Another wierd thing that happened to me was when i was trying to sleep i think i felt my REM. im not sure how to explain it, but for a second i could feel my eyes moving, rapidly! I had read a post on here about going straight from conciousness into a lucid dream by imagining i was falling in space. I also read another one where someone had a terrible experience where all they saw was black, clowd like swirls that wouldnt go away. I felt kind of the same thing, but i dont know what the heck it is?

On chance that anyone is still reading this, ill tell you the last experience I had happen to me only 2 nights ago. I was having what im going to call "dream flashes" (yeah i made that up) Ill be sitting there trying to sleep and ill finally fall asleep for maybe 2-3 seconds where ill have like a quicky dream. For example, i fell asleep, and just 2-3 seconds into the dream i saw my friend swinging at my face with a lacrosse stick OUCH! The funny thing is that it was very realistic because as soon as i saw this stick coming towards me from my left i awoke thrashing my face to the right in hopes of dodging the stick. These "quickys", as i like to call them, went on for a while until i finally decided to think of NOTHING.

Sorry my stories arnt quite as interesting as growing wings and morphing into a dragon, but im working on it! Maybe you all can help me understand what the heck happened last night and the night before. Thanks for all your help already

when you get those Quickies, your sub consious is beginning to surface and you are starting to drop off to sleep I think they are called hypnogic visuals and you can get sounds too...
